Zoolana recently announced more details about the tokenomics of the upcoming strategy game. SPL, the Zoolana token, will function both as a utility token and a reward token. Additionally, the team will airdrop 600 million tokens to Alpha Red NFT holders based on snapshots taken throughout the five-month timeframe.
Zoolana recently held its first asset sale, the Alpha Red NFT. Several notable perks come with buying (and holding) the first NFT series of the game, which we covered in our previous Zoolana post.

Zoolana has officially launched public Alpha NFT minting, marking the project’s first asset sale. Anyone with 2 SOL can now mint an NFT for the upcoming strategy game. The NFT will have permanent bonuses and make holders eligible for future token airdrops. The developers have also explained their unique design philosophy when it comes to NFTs as game assets.
Solana-based strategy game Zoolana aims to blend the aesthetically pleasing nature of art-focused NFTs with the in-game utility of NFTs designed as game assets. In a recent Medium post, the team described how their focus is to create a “deadly combination” of innovation and collectability.
The team cites Magic: The Gathering and Polar Engine (an art studio famous for League of Legends artwork) as major design influences. You can absolutely see the influences of those legends in the above artwork, along with the additional cards that have since become available due to the release of Alpha minting.

Zoolana is set in the year 2300. Earth is ravaged by war and famine, but high up in the mountains are the desolate, century-old ruins of an advanced civilization.
The Zoolana team is building a mobile real time strategy game. Comparable to Clash of Clans (500m+ downloads) and War and Order (10m+ downloads), Zoolana is looking to learn from its predecessors, taking the good while leaving the bad. It’s also looking to innovate with its use of a play-and-earn economy, allowing players to unlock the value of their in-game assets.
This is a sneak peak from our upcoming Teaser Edition NFTs, launching October 15th.
Players will build their settlements and attack their foes using a mix of fearsome units, skilled in-game hero characters, and strategic thinking. They’ll be asked to make some important decisions during combat, including: which units do I deploy at which time? What’s the most optimal way to use my hero? Which opponent do I actually want to attack?
Our goal for Zoolana is to take what made other mobile strategy games good, and use them to make our game great. We’ve spent hundreds of hours playing our predecessors (our cofounder DD sat on the top of the War and Order leaderboard for 8 weeks in 2019), and have a deep understanding of what makes these games tick. These games do a phenomenal job of leveraging the power of social dynamics, giving friends the opportunity to help their friends who are under assault, and mount attacks together on other players. They offer fun and engaging combat experiences, giving players just the right amount of decisions to keep them interested. They’ve been successful, and we’re looking to learn from them in order to add stellar tweaks, not lose the plot in vastly different features and designs.
Core Gameplay Loop
- Players gather resources from the environment in their settlement.
- Players use resources to prepare for combat. This includes training units for immediate use, as well as unlocking permanent upgrades to increase combat strength for all combats going forward. Players will have access to systems of upgrades for many different aspects of combat.
- Players go into combat, testing their combat strength against the combat strength of opposing players. Players use a combination of their units, heroes, abilities, equipment, and more to mount a successful offense.
Players will use their units, character abilities, weapons and armor to mount an offense on opponents’ bases and units, stealing resources from them if successful. Players will need to strategize; the more efficient your assault, the more resources you save, increasing your ability to enter into another combat round sooner.
Resources serve a number of functions in Zoolana. They’ll be used to upgrade player’s combat strength, unlock new units, character abilities, weapons, armor, etc. They’ll also be used to upgrade your settlements, unlocking new in-game content and features. Finally, they’ll affect the nature of the in-game crafting system, allowing players to finish their crafting faster, create more valuable items, and more.
Resources will be produced passively, and will be retained between combat rounds. Players can walk away from their game as resource collection continues, returning later to apply those resources to various initiatives when they come back to the game. Players with intelligent resource management will be rewarded; work to increase your resource production as a first priority in order to find yourself with enough to level up and increase your combat power at a rapid pace. Players who are more interested in pure combat over resource management will be given options to skip resource collection, for a price. These fees include directing players to buy items, upgrades, and more from the secondary market, distributing player value among other players instead of solely into the hands of the Zoolana team.
What About Alpha NFT Minting?
Alpha minting became available shortly after showcasing the design of the first Alpha NFT for Zoolana. Minting is currently available to the public and a fresh Alpha Edition Red NFT will cost 2 SOL. There is a total available supply of 8555 and at the time of this writing there are 7586 NFTs remaining.

You can full Zoolana’s full roadmap on their website. It’s worth considering the amount of time before play-to-earn elements will be available. Without them, buying and selling NFTs along with trading the game’s token (Q1 2023) will be the only earning opportunities.
Keep in mind that this roadmap isn’t abnormal, this game is just freshly announced and so it’s normal for gameplay to be pretty far away. You should expect to wait a while before planning to take over the Zoolana valley with your friends.
What is Zoolana?
Zoolana is an NFT-based strategy game where players will build communities that battle each other for the limited resources of Zoolana. The game takes place on Earth in the year 2300 in the region called Zoolana. It’s nestled in an isolated valley in the Rocky Mountains and is intended to shelter citizens from the chaos enveloping the rest of the world.
Wealthy citizens built Zoolana as the last refuge of “society” where they could live lavish lifestyles without worrying about the world collapsing. Zoolana technology advanced quickly and soon they were able to engineer animals called Zanis that were designed for battle in the Colleseum. Eventually, they made the creatures have human intelligence to make the fights even better.
It all backfired as the battle-hardened Zanis eventually rebelled and killed every last citizen of Zoolana. The newly freed Zanis split into three tribes and spread out throughout the valley. Peace lasted for 50 years, but dwindling resources have forced conflict on the tribes.
This is where the upcoming game takes place. Players will control Zanis, build communities, harvest resources, and battle each other for control over Zoolana. The project’s whitepaper provides additional details about the gameplay and what players can expect from upcoming developments. This project is quite new, but it’s definitely one to watch.

The SLP token forms the foundation for the game, acting as both the utility token and the reward token. Many projects have started splitting up those roles, but Zoolana chose to do everything with one token.
SLP will be earned from various in-game activities that are currently described as “qualifying game behavior/participation. ” The purpose of the rewards system is to increase player retention and provide a clear play-to-earn mechanism.
It’s not all about earning, however. Players that are truly invested in the game won’t be able to earn SLP and send it all off to the nearest exchange. Instead, they’ll have to spend some of it carrying out several game actions, such as:

The Alpha Blue NFTs launch will take place on the Magic Eden launchpad on January 8 at 4 pm UTC. There is a total supply of 3,500 Alpha Blue NFTs available for mint during the event. Of the 3,500 NFTs, 2,000 units would be available through the Magic Eden platform.
Immediately after the Magic Eden’s NFT event sells out, Zoolana’s official website will go live for the sale of the remaining 1,500 NFTs. Each NFT would be sold at 1 SOL. These NFTs come in 4-tiers of rarity, which are BRONZE, Silver, Gold, and Fire Obsidian.
Suffice to mention that the token allocation is determined by the level of rarity of holders of NFTs. Holders with higher NFT rarity will receive more allocation. Holders with Bronze NFT will be allocated a total of 20,000 while Silver NFTs get 24,000 tokens.
Gold gets 28,000 tokens, and Fire Obsidian gets 40,000 tokens. Around the minting period and the IDO on the game platform, there will be snapshots of different wallet addresses that hold Alpha Blue NFTs. These snapshots qualify holders’ wallet addresses for a part in the IDO airdrop.
The game features immersive stories that will keep players engaged as they unravel the mystery of the Zoolana valley filled with life and loss. Players in the game would have the freedom to choose their tribes. These tribes are LUNA, VAND, and NOR. Each tribe is distinct with specific features, attributes, and genetics.
Similar, But Different
Zoolana draws influence and inspiration from a number of different MOBA and strategy games. Despite the similarities, here are some elements of our game that will be different from those games you know and love.
- Our game features similar gameplay to Clash of Clans and War and Order, but showcases high-fidelity graphics in a fantasy-future style. Our characters are humanoid animals wielding borderline-magical technology in the Zoolana valley, with comparable graphics quality to games like Skyrim and League of Legends: Wild Rift.
- Players will not lose their armies post-combat. Clash of Clans has a ‘feature’ whereby units used for an assault are removed from a player’s army balance post-combat, even if the unit hasn’t died. In Zoolana, players will retain that unit to use for a future attack, rewarding those who successfully apply strategy in combat.
- The ability to retreat from combat will be modified, as players are often overly punished in games currently for entering combat with an opponent who has overwhelming odds against them. (i.e., one who has much stronger clanmates who are willing to help defend).
- Players will be able to upgrade and further equip their weapons and armor, providing another vehicle for in-game storytelling as players upgrade their weapons over time.
- Players will be able to trade and manipulate their resources with an unprecedented freedom, allowing new resource management styles for players with an interest in ‘min-maxing’.
- Players will be able to export characters, weapons, armor, and in-game resources from the game into their Solana crypto wallet. This allows them the freedom to sell their in-game units on any secondary market, determine their own terms of trade, and variously access the value stored in their in-game assets.
What is Zoolana Game?
Zoolana has two kinds of NFTs, Zani NFT & Land NFT, to operate the whole ecosystem. Zanis are unique hero characters that players will take into battles to defeat other players and collect rewards. Land will be a huge part of Zoolana’s economy, game structure, and future. In Zoolana, there will be 3 main territories, which will then be subdivided into 5 different zones each.
