The Other Side is an NFT project focusing on both fashion and art from a creative team that has worked with many major companies and brands, while also implementing a staking mechanism to reward holders to help build out The Other Side ecosystem.
Moonwalkers from The Other Side hold the power to mine «moonerals,» a treasure found on the same side of the moon as moonwalkers. The Other Side Moonwalkers can be staked and are rewarded with moonpods that contain moonerals equivalent to the amount of time they have been staked.
A total of 100,000 moonpods will ever be dropped to those staking moonwalkers. Moonpods will also contain additional treasure and commodities that are required to expand The Other Side ecosystem.
Slowly but surely, the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) is getting bigger. Massively so. New and exciting happenings are being announced on a near-monthly basis. And now Yuga Labs — the company behind BAYC — has started down the path to create their massive metaverse endeavor. It’s a new project called Otherside.
The Otherside project was initially announced in March 2022. Subsequent speculation and a deluge of unconfirmed information in circulation made the actual details of the project fuzzy at best. This isn’t too surprising, given the scale of the project. While some may have thought Otherside was just another expansion to the existing BAYC NFTs, it isn’t at all comparable to secondary collections like the Bored Ape Kennel Club.
This new endeavor is a whole new ballgame.
And even though its launch was riddled with hiccups and rather poorly received throughout the greater NFT community, it looks like Otherside is here to stay. With this in mind, here’s everything you need to know.

Otherside.
The Sandbox.

Sandbox.
Oднa из редких виpтуaльныx зeмeль Otherside былa пpoдaнa зa $ 1,5 млн.
Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC)
Yuga Labs.

After much ado, Yuga Labs held its long-awaited digital land sale on Saturday evening – a public debut for its “Otherside” metaverse project. While the resulting land rush generated roughly $285 million for the company, it also created some of the highest gas fees in the history of the Ethereum network: Investors have spent over $176 million on fees alone in the past 24 hours.
Otherside is the biggest product launch yet from the company best known for creating the Bored Ape Yacht Club non-fungible token collection. During last night’s sale, traders snapped up a limited supply of 55,000 “Otherdeeds” NFTs, which represent titles to plots of virtual land in a forthcoming 3D social space.
They cost about $7,000 each, and were only available for purchase in ApeCoin (APE), Yuga Labs’ official cryptocurrency. On secondary marketplaces like OpenSea, the cheapest listed price for an Otherdeed was around 7 ETH (roughly $19,000) at publication time.
The night was a win for the firm, which previously raised $450 million from venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz, and a kind of slow-burning disaster for everyone else. (The Otherside raise was worth even more last night – around $320 million – but the value of APE has since fallen
The company issued a public apology in the wake of the fee-related chaos:

The statement also gestures at the idea of refunding traders’ gas fees, though it’s not yet clear what that process would look like.
“It seems abundantly clear that ApeCoin will need to migrate to its own chain in order to properly scale. We’d like to encourage the DAO to start thinking in this direction
Of course, the firm has taken great pains to assert that it doesn’t actually control the ApeCoin decentralized autonomous organizatrion – maybe it can donate some of last night’s windfall to the cause.

The firm sold tokens tied to 55,000 distinct parcels of land at around $6,500 each, and generated something like $300 million in revenue. (The NFTs were priced exclusively in ApeCoin, Yuga Labs’ official cryptocurrency, the volatility of which makes it tough to settle on an exact number
The sale also functioned as a kind of unofficial funding round for a company that raised $450 million in blue-chip venture financing earlier this year.
Yuga Labs, for the uninitiated, is the company behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club, which remains the crypto ecosystem’s single most valuable NFT collection. The firm didn’t even have to say what it planned to do with the money, in teasing the Otherside land sale; the fact of its proximity to the Bored Apes was more than enough reason for investors to buy in.
And buy in they did, in spite of a series of system-breaking failures.
And because all pending transactions on Ethereum are queued up in one giant list, what clogs a single NFT project can end up clogging the entire network. At certain moments on Saturday and early Sunday, even simple crypto transfers demanded several thousand dollars in fees.
That meant that the $6,500 buy-in was effectively even higher – only investors with tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of liquid crypto could capitalize on the land rush. And Bored Ape owners got to skip the whole process, claiming free Otherside NFTs at their leisure, as gas prices descended to reasonable levels. One prominent Ape investor, Jimmy McNelis, boasted about paying just. 88 ETH in fees to claim 144 Otherside land parcels.
The result is that Otherside effectively comes with a baked-in class of landed elites. Staking a claim in Yuga Labs’ metaverse was far easier for a Bored Ape owner than for any other variety of NFT whale; for traders without hundreds of thousands of dollars already invested in this space, it was nearly impossible. (A single Otherside NFT currently costs about $11,000 on the secondary market
If, as metaverse boosters like Mark Zuckerberg predict, the creator economy really does move into virtual online spaces like these, we’ll all be working on Ape-owned land – almost a riff on manorialism, the Medieval economic system, with Apes as lords.
The decision to conduct Saturday’s sale in ApeCoin also meant that prospective investors had to load up on the coin in advance of the sale, resulting in a literal pump and dump: the price of a single ApeCoin shot up to $26 ahead of the sale, and immediately dipped nearly 50% once traders swapped their coins for NFTs.
Yuga Labs’ response to the chaos was to propose abandoning Ethereum entirely.
Yuga Labs has spent months trying to distance itself from ApeCoin and its primary governing body, the ApeCoin DAO, presumably for regulatory reasons. The thinking is that if ApeCoin comes from Yuga Labs, it’s a kind of securities offering, and should be regulated as such. If it comes from this amorphous, headless DAO, though, it should technically be outside the scope of the SEC (more on that here).
It’s no wonder the Otherside debacle has traders so peeved. The rich get richer, supposedly decentralized systems continue to centralize, and the venture capital firms behind Yuga Labs are poised to expand their monopoly over the space even further.
It’s the Apes’ world – we’re just living in it.
На своём сайте Yuga сoобщили, чтo прoект разрабатывается в пaртнёрстве с Animoca Brands (мaтеринская кoмпания The Sandbox) и Improbable (занимается технологиями метавселенных).
Otherside же смoжет oбрабатывать бoлее пoлумиллиарда oпераций в сeкунду, чтo oбеспечит бeспрецедентный мaсштаб игрoвого прoцесса и взaимодействий, котoрые рaнее были невoзможны.
What is the Otherside project from Yuga Labs?
Otherside is the largest expansion of the Bored Ape NFT universe we’ve ever seen. The NFT space first got a first glimpse into what Yuga Labs was trying to build with Otherside from their leaked 2022 pitch deck. In the deck, the company expressed a desire to “build something that expands the universe of the BAYC, but also invites the larger NFT community (and those priced out of BAYC membership) to join
Some of Yuga Labs’ founders originally rejected the contents of the deck. They posted in Discord, claiming that the deck was, “an old, outdated pitch deck and hilariously a version that neither Gordon nor I ever saw. ” However, it seems this is actually exactly what the company is hoping to do with this project. After a tweak to their messaging, the Otherside website stated that the project is literally aimed at building a new universe. Specifically, in the metaverse.
The Otherside project is ultimately an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) connected to the BAYC ecosystem. Wondering how the Otherside world and BAYC NFTs fit together? You’re not alone.
The team notes that the game will blend mechanics from MMORPGs and Web3-enabled virtual worlds. Specifically, players own the land in the world, NFTs can be transformed into playable characters, and more than 10,000 people will be able to play together simultaneously.

Photo showing other NFT projects include in Otherside. Credit: Otherside
Yuga Labs hasn’t announced everything about how the game will work. But here’s what the team has said so far:
- Multiplayer features will be made possible via Improbable’s M2 technology
- Otherside will include natural voice chat
- They hope to solve problems in bandwidth and rendering “using machine learning”
- Otherside will be able to handle more than half a billion operations per second
- Immersive gameplay will be “supported by AI and physics”
If that sounds really general and non-specific, it’s because it is. There isn’t any specific information related to the infrastructure or technology. What we do know so far is that the key to the game will be embedded within the unique ecosystem and the enigmatic Kodas that live within it.
Furthermore, the project will tie directly into the ApeCoin ecosystem. The only way to participate in the Otherside drop is to purchase an NFT using $APE tokens.
Who created and owns Otherside?
It’s important to note that, at this point in the Bored Ape journey, Yuga Labs isn’t the only entity piloting the ship. Although the four founders of Yuga Labs first came up with the idea for BAYC and were an integral part of bringing the Otherside project to life, there are a good number of additional companies and individuals now helping run the show.
Apart from Yuga Labs, the most prominent force behind Bored Apes is now venture-capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (known as “a16z”), who led Yuga Labs’ seed round through their crypto fund. With the funding, Chris Lyons, general partner at a16z crypto, joined Yuga Labs’ board. Other prominent players include Animoca Brands, Improbable, and the ApeCoin DAO.
Animoca Brands is a game software and venture capital company helping build Otherside. Considering Animoca is also the driving force behind the widely popular metaverse game The Sandbox, the Hong Kong-based company has continued to solidify itself as a major player in metaverse endeavors.

An image teasing the Otherside. Credit: Otherside
Similarly, Improbable, a British metaverse technology company pioneering new ways to build value across interconnected virtual worlds, has become synonymous with the Otherside project. Meaning that Animoca and Improbable are both joint creators and owners of Yuga Labs’ Bored Ape-centric Otherside.
On the path to Otherside though, there have been many investors and contributors backing Yuga Labs from the newly launched ApeCoin ecosystem. As the new MMORPG will tie directly into the ApeCoin — which recently expanded as we saw OpenSea and other NFT marketplaces start to accept $APE as a form of payment — it’s clear to see that the ApeCoin DAO, which is the true creator behind the ApeCoin, will largely influence Otherside.
What are Otherdeeds and Kodas?
When it comes to deciphering how Otherside might actually work, one of the best things to turn to is Otherdeeds. Otherdeeds are dynamic NFTs that were built as a collection, and they contain all of the game elements. Each Otherdeed comes with a set of resources and some (very few) include a Koda (more on that in a moment).

The Otherdeeds NFT land sediment tiers. Credit: Otherside
Otherdeeds were launched via public sale on April 30, 2022 as a collection of 55,000 parcels of land. It should be noted, though, that the entire supply of Otherdeeds totals 100,000, with the other 45,000 parcels reserved for Bored Ape NFT holders and Yuga Labs employees and partners.
Within the ecosystems made up by Otherdeeds, live Kodas.

The Otherside NFT land sale
Now that Otherside NFTs have been (and still are being) released and traded throughout the NFT ecosystem, everything seems to be more or less well within the BAYC kingdom. Yet, as previously mentioned, the Otherdeeds drop did not go off without a hitch. Quite the contrary.
To begin with, a number of Otherdeeds were reserved for current members of the BAYC community. You can see a breakdown of who received what in the image below.

Otherdeed distribution outline. Credit: Otherside
Launched on April 30, the Otherdeeds release was originally slated to be released via Dutch Auction. In the past, Dutch Auctions have been widely used to avoid astronomical gas fees created by a large number of NFT collectors attempting to mint their new NFTs all at once. In a Dutch Auction, NFTs collectors are given the opportunity to bid on items ahead of the sale, placing a bid that corresponds to the amount they are willing to spend on the NFT. On the day of the sale, the project creators analyze all the bids to come up with a ceiling price for the NFT (the highest point at which the NFTs will be sold). Then the sale begins, and collectors can start to purchase NFTs at the designated price. There is a gradual decline in price every few minutes once the Dutch auction starts. This continues until the whole collection is sold or the auction time ends.
However, Dutch Auctions have traditionally made a bad impression on the NFT community. While projects will usually set their initial price relatively high — in hopes that there will be a fair distribution of NFTs throughout the sale i. , create a sort of “buy what you can afford” mentality — fear of missing out (FOMO) almost always leads to the majority of collectors buying at the high price, ensuring that gas wars happen regardless.
This structure didn’t work. And it didn’t prevent excessive gas fees. In fact, the sale never even reached the second of a proposed five+ waves.
The Otherside mint
With the cost of each Otherdeed set at 305 $APE (and $APE valued at around $20 during the mint), each Otherdeed will cost somewhere around $6,100 at launch. This excessively high price point didn’t stop anyone from buying. Gas prices failed to dip anywhere below 1 ETH ($2,750 at the time), and FOMO yet again led to a free-for-all.
Only NFT investors with tens of thousands of dollars in liquid crypto were able to participate, and countless individuals lost upwards of 1-2 ETH due to failed transactions.
What happened next? A lot.
Although Yuga promised to work out a solution to refund the ETH that many lost to gas fees, it’s been a small consolation to the greater NFT ecosystem. NFT drops largely seem broken because project creators don’t properly analyze options, and the Otherdeeds sale just reinforced this. Yuga Labs responded to the fiasco by saying that the only solution is to create their own chain.
Hanlon’s razor is a real bitch, because a majority of the time in life, people really are just incompetent, and aren’t actually trying to be maliciousbut in the 1% of cases where they are manipulating, they’ll ALWAYS make it appear like incompetence to cover their tracks
Otherdeeds licensing
What does “owning” an Otherdeed actually entail? Of course, you can trade it, and the Otherdeed marketplace has been booming since launch, achieving upwards of 200,000 ETH (over $568 million) in secondary sales only a few days after launch. But collectors who choose to hold onto their Otherdeeds for the long run need to be aware of the licensing behind the new Yuga Labs NFTs.
As outlined in the Otherside NFT Purchase Agreement, when a collector purchases an Otherdeed NFT, that collector owns all personal property rights to that Otherdeed. They have the right to freely sell, transfer, or otherwise dispose of that NFT. What collectors do not receive, though, are the rights of any kind to any image or other intellectual property (IP) associated with, related to, or linked to an Otherdeed.
Of course, the debate around whether or not NFT collectors should be granted the rights to the IP of any tokens they collect is nothing new. As we’ve seen numerous prominent Web3 figures fighting for the proliferation of creative commons licenses for NFTs.
Looking further into the Otherside Licensing Agreement, it’s clear Yuga has taken measures to prevent the NFT owners from profiting off of their NFTs. To this effect, the company has stated that Otherdeeds can only be used by collectors in a personal, non-commercial way i. “home display, display in a virtual gallery or creating a reasonable number of back-up copies and physical printouts
Although it is understandable that the team wants to be the ones to profit off of their IP, these clauses feel contrary to the values of some in the wider Bored Ape community. Especially considering that one of the biggest selling points of BAYC has been the ability of Ape owners to profit off of – and, in some cases, create entire brands surrounding – the IP of the BAYC they own.

Kodas from Otherside. Credit: Otherside
Next, a separate clause prohibits the transfer of Kodas to any individual “located in a country that is subject to a U. Government embargo, or that has been designated by the U. Government as a terrorist-supporting country, or listed on any U. Government list of prohibited or restricted party
The future of the Otherside metaverse
Considering Yuga Lab’s extreme levels of success, possibly the most interesting aspect of the Otherside project will be what is to come. As Yuga and its partners have continued to be intentionally cryptic when it comes to all things Otherdeeds and Kodas, the possibilities of what Animoca and Improbable can bring to the table seem unlimited – especially when coupled with the money of Andreessen Horowitz.
One thing is clear through all of this, though: Yuga still very much values the Bored Ape and wider NFT communities. Yuga seems to be trying to exude the values associated with BAYC, as they have stated that Otherdeeds holders will be the major builders of Otherside.
Those who own a plot of land will be able to participate in demos, prototype builds, in-person events, and contests. While Otherdeed collectors need not have any special or technical knowledge, individuals and companies can apply for a Software Development Kit (SDK) to be involved in building characters, character skins, structures, in-game items, minigames, and more for Otherside.

The Metaverse is a term that is growing in popularity every day, with developments in Web 3. 0, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and decentralized finance (DeFi) pushing its creation and adoption throughout the world.
One of the biggest players in NFTs, Yuga Labs and its Bored Ape NFT collections, is now finally coming to the table, developing a Metaverse that aims to incorporate NFTs from across multiple platforms in order to create one of the largest Metaverses in existence.

The Otherside project uses ApeCoin (APE) as its governance and native crypto. APE is trading at $7. 66 with a total circulating supply of 292. 2 million APE for a market cap of $2. 2 billion.
What Is the Otherside NFT Metaverse?
The Otherside NFT Metaverse is the latest development from Yuga Labs, the people behind the hugely successful Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and its ApeCoin (APE) crypto.
Otherside aims to be a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), that will be connected to the BAYC ecosystem. Here, up to 10,000 participants will be able to use playable NFTs to play together simultaneously.
The Otherside Metaverse aims to be as immersive and interactive as possible, with playable NFT characters and natural voice chat. In this same spirit, the Otherside Metaverse will be an ever-evolving world developed by the holders of the Otherside Land NFTs, known as Otherdeeds.
These players will collaborate to shape the world by participating in prototype builds, demos, and tests to shape the gaming design and experience. In this way, the Otherside NFT Metaverse will be a hybrid between Web 3. 0 platforms and interactive gaming experiences like those experienced by players of games like Dungeons and Dragons. Other investors in the project will also be able to participate in the Otherside Metaverse’s development through the ApeCoin decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).
The Otherside NFT Metaverse is still under construction, but it is making moves to become one of the largest Metaverses to date. This is being done through collaborations with different NFT ecosystems, whereby players will be able to participate with playable NFTs from collections including World of Women (WoW), Cool Cats, and CrypToadz.

Otherdeeds, Kodas, and NFT characters
In order to create an inclusive, ever-evolving Metaverse with playable characters and an element of intrigue, Otherside is composed of multiple components:

Playable NFT characters
By allowing different types of NFTs to participate in the Otherside Metaverse as playable characters, the creators can ensure that there is more diversity in the world and that those who are priced out of buying expensive Ape NFTs can still be a part of it.
This incorporation of NFT holders from other ecosystems will expand the project’s reach and in turn contribute to its growth.
There are a total of 10,000 Kodas within the initially available 100,000 Otherside Land NFTs (of a total of 200,000) i. an initial 1 in 10 chance of receiving a Koda when buying land. How players will interact with them and what will happen in their storyline remains a mystery, however, some believe that Kodas could be the next blue chip NFT collection.

Who Is Behind the Otherside NFT World?
Yuga Labs, as the company behind ApeCoin and the BAYC, is the primary creator of the Otherside Metaverse. Other bigwigs backing the Otherside NFT Metaverse include:
- Andreesen Horowitz, or “a16z crypto”: This venture-capital firm led the first seed round for Otherside NFT Metaverse through its crypto fund. The firm’s large capital led to it securing a place for one of its general partners, Chris Lyons, on Yuga Lab’s board for the Metaverse project.
- Animoca brands: A gaming software company and venture-capital firm, Animoca Brands is one of the companies behind the hugely popular Metaverse and virtual real estate platform, The Sandbox. Already an established player in the space, Animoca Brands is helping build the Otherside NFT Metaverse through funding and technology.
- Improbable: This British company pioneering new technology in the Metaverse space is also aiding the Otherside NFT project through its gaming software. With Improbable and Animoca’s help, Otherside aims to create a massive, secure, and interactive platform across virtual worlds.

Otherside and the NFT Community
Despite the hype in the lead up to the project’s release in April (APE was the only coin in the top 20 to see its value turn bullish during the preceding week), as well as Yuga Labs earning $318 million from the original sales of Otherdeeds, the kickoff for the project did not go smoothly.
Two Key Issues of The Otherside NFT
Within minutes of launch, more than $200 million worth of Otherside Land NFTs had been sold, Ethereum gas fees skyrocketed to $5,000 per transaction, and Etherscan crashed. This led Otherside to freeze the sale, meaning that only 55,000 of the 100,000 land NFTs made available were sold during the first wave of sales.
To make matters worse, many buyers found that their purchases had not gone through, but gas fees had been charged. Otherside has promised to refund these fees, but the experience left many with a bad taste in their mouth.
Another aspect of the Otherside Metaverse which has left many NFT collectors and Metaverse fans perplexed and alarmed is their somewhat hidden and questionable rules.
For example, the Koda licensing agreement for a Koda NFT is revocable. This means that Yuga Labs can take away a collector’s license for their Koda NFT.
Additionally, the terms and conditions prohibit transferals of Kodas to any individuals located in countries subject to a US embargo or those deemed to support terrorists such as Iran and Cuba. This kind of behavior runs against the ethos of decentralization.

Otherside Metaverse
The Otherside Metaverse’s value can best be seen through the price fluctuations in its governance token and native cryptocurrency, ApeCoin (APE).
The initial hype and excitement brought about by the leaked project proposal, the mystery surrounding the digital world’s appearance, and the secrecy surrounding the Koda NFTs led to big gains in the project’s value.
At a time when most coins were tumbling, APE was hitting new highs. Unfortunately, the rocky start to its launch, insanely high gas fees, individuals losing money, and essentially a crash of the system, led to chaos and a huge drop in its value from $24. 83 hours before the launch to lows of $16. 71 the next morning and $5. 29 10 days later.

What Is the Future for the Otherside Metaverse?
Additionally, as a world that will evolve based on the Otherside Land NFT holders and participants in the ApeCoin DAO, even those without the capital to enter at the top can have a say in how it develops.

Overall, despite some initial failures, excitement for the project remains strong. Alongside its strong financial backing, expert advisors in gaming and Metaverse software, the Otherside could well emerge a key player in shaping the future of the NFT Metaverse.
How to Buy ApeCoin on Phemex
ApeCoin (APE), as the Otherside NFT Metaverse project’s main currency and governance token, is the best way to invest in the Otherside project (except for by buying one of the affiliated NFT characters or Otherdeeds).

First Trip.
