SearchLight is one of the official curators for NFT.NYC 2021, alongside Christie’s Auction House. Guess who’s representing the community?
Accompanying the Exhibitions will be an event at the Triad Theater in New York City with leading NFT artists, educators, DAOs, and collectible teams.
Access to all the events are listed below.
Producing and Event Partners include:
Chris Parks Art, Group.BR Rarepizzas, On1Force, Ethereals, and Frogland.io
However, the conference is only one element of the week, which will feature an eye-popping number of parties, including Bored Ape Yacht Club’s highly-anticipated ApeFest, and activations all over the city.
Yet, among all the fanfare, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to navigate the lists of speakers, events, and activations. So to help NFT enthusiasts and maximalists of all types get through this year’s wealth of festivities, we’ve created a roadmap through NFT.NYC’s most exciting and influential happenings.
Curated NFT artwork marketplace SuperRare will soon be opening up its debut physical gallery space in New York City.
The SuperRare Gallery pop-up will run from May 19 to August 28 and is dedicated to showcasing a rotating roster of curated NFT exhibitions and programs highlighting the evolution of digital art.
The debut exhibition, Visions from Remembered Futures, was curated by SuperRare senior curator An Rong and features works by 15 digital artists exploring themes of science fiction and futurism. Future programming will include a dedicated exhibition for Pride Month, an exhibition dedicated to two-dimensional digital painting and a showcase of works by Black digital artists.
“NTFs are dynamic artworks and seeing them displayed in a gallery setting, sparking dialogue and connection has long been a goal for us at SuperRare,” said SuperRare co-founder and CEO John Crain.
According to SuperRare, the gallery is aimed at making digital art “accessible, beautiful, inspiring, and to foster in-person connections and conversation.” It adds that digital art has often been sidelined by traditional institutions due to the difficulties of displaying the works in a physical setting.
“Showcasing artists from diverse backgrounds, the SuperRare Gallery aims to explore art’s future place in the web3 ecosystem, while reflecting on the past astronomical year when NFTs entered the mainstream consciousness,” the company says.
In other news, Gagosian recently opened a new boutique in the heart of London.

It seems New York City is about to get a taste of the NFT magic as a new exhibition called “NFT, Contemporary and Digital Art,” will be making its way there from September 5 to 11, 2022. This exhibition is being organized by Art Innovation Gallery, an Italian company, and will be focused on the iconic Times Square.
Time Square is especially famous for its massive billboards and during this time, NFTs will be displayed on them. The NFTs in question will be Art Innovation Gallery’s selection of the works of 56 digital artists.
“NFT, Contemporary and Digital Art Billboard Art Exhibition in Times Square, New York, September 5th – 11th 2022,” a tweet from the company said ahead of the launch.
Some of the artists to be featured include Grant Riven Yun, Jivinci, Henrik Uldalen, and . This is a very impressive development considering that Times Square is one of the most visited tourist spots in the world and this casts a massive spotlight on NFT-focused art.
Previously, Times Square played host to NFTs during this year’s conference and it seems we are now getting more. Hopefully, even more NFT projects will find their way into the Square.

A Snoop Dogg impersonator tricked crowds at an NFT conference in New York into believing he was the real deal in a stunt designed to show how easy fakery in the industry is.
The impersonator, who went by the moniker Doop Snogg, attended the NFT.NYC conference in New York City this week and took selfies alongside eager Snoop Dogg fans.
The NFT startup which hired the lookalike, Fair.xyz, said the trick was supposed to make people talk about imposters and fakery in the NFT industry.
«We used Doop Snogg as a fun way of highlighting our goal of removing imposters, bots and fraud away from the NFT space,» the company said in a statement sent to Insider.
NFT sales have tanked in recent months as people struggled to sell NFTs for original prices, while others have been caught out by scams and theft.
NFT sales have plummeted 92% since their peak in September 2021.
The lookalike — who didn’t reveal their full name — wore a fake moustache and packed paper in their shoes to appear taller, The Guardian reported.
Snoop Dogg retweeted a post captioning it solely with his lookalike’s namesake.
A representative for Fair.xyz did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
NFTs surged in popularity last year, with sales buoyed up by the support of A-listers like Snoop Dogg.
The artist has previously championed Web3 technology, including crypto, NFTs, and the metaverse. His latest music video is set in a «Snoopverse» digital world.
The star has also released his own NFTs and has claimed to be collecting NFTs under the pseudonym, Cozomo de’ Medici.
Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue is a vaunted strip of stores, with luxury retailers and other major brands fighting for shoppers’ attention. Come next week, an gallery will join their ranks, as the NYC Gallery is set to open up in Midtown.
But the location itself might not even be the most interesting piece of the puzzle. What really stands out is the ability for anyone, to own the exclusive rights to show off and sell their own NFTs—either created or collected—on one of the displays, and control it remotely.
That’s the hook offered by Web3 NYC Gallery, which will open its doors on June 15 at 510 5th Avenue in New York City. As part of its offerings, the location will feature 300 NFT displays from partner Tokenframe, which can only be controlled by the owner of an associated
Within the gallery, visitors can scan a QR code on the frame and purchase any NFTs that are listed for sale. Rotola told that the store will have NFT-savvy associates onhand to help buyers with setting up wallets and buying artwork, and will help ensure that they understand the process and aren’t buying knockoff collectibles.
“We took our longest wall, and we said, ‘This is going to be owned by people,’” said Rotola. “The people are going to have the same access to Fifth Avenue that Louis Vuitton has, and that all of these big, amazing, incredible brands have. They get to be on Fifth Avenue, but these people do too.”
An NFT works like a proof of ownership to a digital item, and NFTs often represent things like digital artwork, profile pictures, sports and entertainment collectibles, and video game items. The market expanded significantly in 2021, generating some $25 billion in trading volume, and 2022 volume is currently on track to smash that sum despite an oft-volatile market.
Web3 NYC Gallery offers displays tied to its Genesis NFTs at three different levels: 160 10-inch Collector’s Club displays ranging from 1.5 ETH ($2,680) to 2 ETH ($3,580), 110 21.5-inch Degen Club displays ranging from 5 ETH ($8,950) to 10 ETH ($17,900), and 30 43-inch Alpha Club displays that are being sold privately at unlisted prices.
However, there will be limits on pornographic content due to Web3 NYC Gallery being a publicly accessible space, and they aim to stamp out “scammy” content, as well. Rotola said that the gallery is using “very proven A.I. to test every single image” for objectionable content.

In recognition of the incredibly vibrant crypto art scene in France and around the world, FIAF is participating in NFT.NYC.
FIAF Presents NFT: New French Touch, a unique exhibition and conversation celebrating NFTs the French way, will feature more than 20 established and emerging crypto artists whose works illustrate the remarkable stylistic range of this new medium. From pioneers of the French Movement, such as Alotta Money, LuluxXX and Pascal Boyart, to international artists influenced by French culture in their œuvre, such as Robness, Jivinci, Miss Al Simpson, and Kevin Abosch, the exhibition affirms the incredible scope of NFTs and offers a compelling introduction for those new to the genre.
Join us on Monday, June 20 for the exhibition opening and special panel discussions in English. The evening will kick off with a free opening reception in the FIAF Gallery. The ticketed portion of the evening will include a preview of the exhibition in Tinker Auditorium featuring never-before-seen artwork created exclusively for this event, entry to the panel discussions and cocktail reception, and a chance to win an NFT created by DataDada artist Albertine Meunier.
This event is brought to FIAF by 0x4rt and Leila Khazaneh.
These panel discussions will introduce the origins of the movement in France, its tightly-knit community of artists and builders, and the global influence of a new wave of digital art collectors.
Panel 1: Tribute to Vera Molnar
In conversation with Leila Khazaneh, digital mixed media artist Anne Spalter pays tribute to Vera Molnar. A pioneer of computer and generative art, Molnar was one of the first women to use computers in her art practice. Born in Hungary, Molnar lives and works in France. Her very first NFT will be shown at the FIAF exhibition.
Panel 2: Emergence of the French Crypto Art Movement — A Tribute to Alotta Money

Superchief Gallery opened what it calls the «world’s first physical NFT gallery» in New York City on Thursday.
In response to this boom, traditional art houses like Sotheby’s and Christie’s have pivoted to NFT art. Now, a new player is looking to bring NFTs into an otherwise «traditional» art gallery space: Superchief. The company already has locations in Los Angeles, New York, and Miami, but has now expanded to New York City with this new NFT gallery.
Superchief Gallery NFT opened March 25 with the «Season One Starter Pack,» an exhibition that will feature NFT artwork from 300 multidisciplinary artists. Every day through March 25, the space will display NFT art from five different artists, creating a gallery space that will look a bit different daily.
If 300 artists seems like a lot, Edward Zipco, Superchief’s founder and director, has an explanation: «this is a movement, and for a movement to succeed, you need many many voices and visions included in the discourse and outreach.»
«This is about working to legitimize NFTs long-term to reinforce two things — digital art is ART, and royalties for artists can never be taken away from the culture,» Zipco told Insider in an email interview.
The 300 artists’ works will also be auctioned through two different styles of «drops.» The first will be a 72-hour auction of a one-of-a-kind piece from every artist, while the second will be a timed auction that will give anybody the opportunity to purchase copies of the artwork within a 72-hour cap. The gallery recommends potential customers prepare their crypto wallets ahead of the auctions, but will accept credit cards as well.
NFT art is digital, which means the space won’t look like any traditional gallery with hanging canvases or sculptures. Instead, Superchief Gallery partnered with «digital canvas» specialists Blackdove to show the artwork on super high-resolution 4K screens between 49 to 90-inches. These screens can then be hung in a collector’s home.
The gallery will also be working with Cloverly — a platform aimed at offsetting carbon footprints — to become carbon negative, therefore addressing the bleak environmental impacts of NFTs.
«For the time being, we are buying carbon credits through Cloverly in bulk to 150% offset our NFT carbon footprint,» Zipco said. «We could have gone neutral and stopped there, but the thinking was: what if we went a little further and created a system that truly helps fund carbon initiatives like the ones that build machines to suck carbon out of the air, or reforest the Amazon.»
Ellen Sheidlin/Superchief Gallery
Before this NFT gallery move, Superchief focused on contemporary artists from different backgrounds. This isn’t the first time the gallery has shown digital art, but prior, there was no «clear way to monetize it,» Zipco explained.
Like major NFT artists, Zipco believes more «traditional» galleries will soon pivot to NFT art as well.
«The best galleries are about their vision, curation, and the artists they have relationships with. To ignore this movement seems short-sighted to say the least,» he said.
But for Superchief, this is only the beginning. The gallery plans to do a variety of NFT showings throughout the summer and is planning a «Season 2 Starter Pack» exhibition for the fall.
The gallery has also been in talks with famed NFT artist Mike Winkelmann of Beeple, whose «Everydays: The First 5,000 Days» piece recently auctioned for over $69 million with Christie’s. Superchief once had plans to hold a Beeple solo exhibition, but this was put on hold after COVID-19 and an accident near the company’s LA warehouse gallery.
«It was beautiful knowing that Beeple wasn’t interested in us for the money, he was working with us because he wanted to be part of the larger art community we represent,» Zipco said.
- NFTs are stored on a crypto-style blockchain but can also be displayed physically, gallery style.
- The Dream Hollywood hotel and The Crypt Gallery have opened a physical NFT exhibit to the public.
- The free event makes an effort to not only impress exhibit attendees with art but also educate them.

With celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan and Katy Perry — along with companies such as ViacomCBS — joining in on the craze, it’s already become big business. In August alone, $3 billion worth of NFTs were sold on OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT venue, Bloomberg reported.
While the ins and outs of how to buy and sell NFTs might still be foreign to the average consumer, some art enthusiasts believe that this forward-thinking platform could eventually offer greater accessibility within the art world by allowing new artists a chance to break into the industry.
«Art can feel very closed off and elitist,» said Kevin Fegans, a brand marketing and communications executive in Los Angeles and a self-proclaimed fashion and art enthusiast. The NFT market, he said, feels more accessible. «It’s all new artists. It’s a great way to support emerging talent,» he added.
Fegans recently visited the Dream Hollywood hotel’s new NFT art exhibition — one of the first exhibits of its kind in a hospitality setting.
«This was the first NFT gallery I’ve heard of,» Fegans said. «I’ve been fascinated, and I think everyone is.»
The idea is gaining momentum. A few months ago, a New York City gallery was the first to display NFTs physically. Now, such exhibits are popping up in major cities such as London and Chicago, and even at Art Basel.
The Dream Hollywood exhibition, coordinated in partnership with The Crypt Gallery, is set to be available to the public for free through 2022 in the hotel’s lobby, which would allow people to learn about and see NFTs up close without paying a cent.
«For NFT connoisseurs, avid art collectors, and even the newest fans of the medium, this exhibition is both provocative and informative,» said Vaughn Davis, the general manager at Dream Hollywood. «When a tech-forward, physical gallery space merges with powerhouse digital collectors like King of Midtown and 33, magic happens.»
The exhibit was curated by Athanasios Polihronopoylos, known as the King of Midtown, an NFT art collector in New York turned innovator and founder of The Crypt Gallery. The exhibit features the works of well-known digital artists such as Chad Knight, Yo Brilly, Lefty Out There, NessGraphics, Tillavision, Lana Denina, Brendan North, Jason Seife, and Robbie Trevino.
One of the catalysts for the gallery, Polihronopoylos said, was the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions. With people spending less time on their screens and discovering the digital world of NFTs, he wanted to continue the concept’s momentum.
«I was thinking ahead in terms of what things would look like as we begin to globally reopen,» he said. «I was always concerned about pullback from our screens. I thought artists could lose momentum, marketplaces would lose momentum — collectors like myself who have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into the space.»
He believed that having a physical presence for NFTs would not only help propel buyer participation but also help connect NFTs with a more mainstream audience.
With the fast progression of the NFT industry and NFTs’ global audience, the hospitality space provided the perfect avenue to reach a large group of people, Polihronopoylos said.
«As soon as you walk into the lobby, you’re immersed in all the different videos,» Fegans said. «There’s so much. There’s all of these beautiful images moving around on display. One panel has probably 40 to 50 artworks within it. I’d say miniature size, but really, really cool.»
Fegans said he’d heard about NFTs before, but he didn’t know much about them before visiting the exhibit — which he found comfortably busy for a Tuesday afternoon — for a 30-minute look. But, he said, since attending, he feels like he sees NFTs everywhere, with many brands talking about them through social media and email marketing.
«I feel like this is kind of the zeitgeist of the art world, where it’s something that’s been buzzing about, but you’re like, ‘What is it really?'» he said. «That’s what it feels like culturally.»
He said the exhibit seemed to expect this and made an effort to not only impress exhibit attendees with art but also educate them on the workings of NFTs with educational vignettes in the form of video monitors — installations alongside the exhibits that educate and inform guests on the NFTs, the gallery, and the featured artists.
«It was kind of like art for dummies,» Fegans said. «It was kind of assumed that you knew nothing about it, so there was a ‘who, what, when, where, why.’ I thought it was a really great experience that way. They did a great job of curating that experience.»
The partnership between Dream Hollywood and The Crypt Gallery is expected to grow, with a plan in place to launch a new exhibit in New York City.
The crypto market may be crashing, but that is hardly putting the kibosh on the festivities surrounding the NFT NYC conference. Only time will tell whether or not crypto entrepreneurs, influencers, and artists are fiddling while Rome burns, but in the meantime, here’s our go-to guide to exhibitions and events to check out during the four-day event.

Onboarding the masses
As mentioned, while the collector-operated displays make up a large chunk of Web3 NYC Gallery’s footprint, there’s more going on within the space. There will be other display areas for partnerships with brands and NFT creators, as well as additional Web3 content—such as crypto games and metaverse offerings.
It has an exclusive club for Alpha-level Genesis NFT owners, too, along with various perks for each tier of NFT owners. Rotola also said that the gallery has numerous revenue streams in the works, including the Genesis NFT sales and secondary royalties, commission deals with brands and artists, sponsorships, events, and exclusive clubs for high-value collectors.
Web3 NYC Gallery isn’t the first NFT gallery in New York City—one opened early last year—let alone the rest of the world. has covered gallery openings in , for example. The just-opened Quantum Space LA even has its own NFT membership program focused on access to events and NFT drops.
Beyond the ability to let NFT owners control the display frames, Rotola suggested that what sets Web3 NYC Gallery apart from other such galleries is a focus on onboarding the masses.
With a prominent Fifth Avenue location, he sees significant potential for the gallery to serve as an onramp to the new and potentially confounding world of Web3. Rotola wants Web3 NYC Gallery to be “a Best Buy for Web3,” encompassing an array of initiatives across the Web3 space along with helpful staffers and an array of things to see and interact with.
“If you look at what Best Buy and Circuit City did for Web1, that needs to happen for Web3,” he said. “You’re not going to get the masses onboarding in chat rooms, and they’re not going to be coming to or those kinds of things. They need something really simple.”
Web3 NYC Gallery’s solution is to have knowledgeable associates that can hold buyers’ hands in setting up wallets and understanding the space. But it also wants to make things tangible in some ways, such as offering and jackets that show someone’s NFTs, plus plans to add a vending machine that’s ideal for kids to buy and trade digital packs of NFT collectibles.
