We recently did a post on Alternative NFT Marketplaces (using alt coins rather than the ETH network for transactions) and one of the featured platforms was SIGN-Art app, which we’ve spent the last few days exploring.

Over that time, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite artists for you to explore (and buy from!) in order to build your NFT collection. Keep in mind that SIGN-Art does most purchases in WAVES which has been in an upswing lately, so the prices listed below may or may not already be outdated.

ARTISTS have the option to tokenize their CREATIONS by permanently linking each to a unique Non-Fungible Token or NFT, and sell as a single or in limited editions.

COLLECTORS can use the platform to display their COLLECTIONS of NFTs, transfer or gift to any Waves account, and *sell in the secondary market.

The SIGN Art dApp is built on top of the Waves Protocol which executes instant transactions, with fixed low-cost fees. NFTs are minted on chain at no cost, with every buy request.

The platform requires the $SIGN utility token for Artists to manage profiles and creations. Digital creations can be sold in $SIGN, $WAVES or $USDN.

Introduction

Marquee NFT projects like Cryptopunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club have generated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue, and have made several of their owners millionaires.

What the aforementioned projects (and most other successful NFT projects today) have been in common is that they are PFP projects. This means that they usually are a collection of 10,000+ avatars where each avatar is unique and has a set of traits.

In this tutorial, we will show you how to generate a collection like this with custom rarities. We will be using a library created by the Scrappy Squirrels team to accomplish this. At the end of this tutorial, you would have generated your own custom avatar collection with associated metadata.

This summer, I sold my signature. It is the sort of conceptual artwork that really couldn’t happen before NFTs and the art market became friends. A lot of focus is given to how NFTs allow us to sell “digital goods” but they actually allow us to sell all kinds of intangible things.

I sold my signature within Unsigned, a Tezos-based collaboration between the artist duo Operator and the curator Anika Meier. This itself is an interesting thing to consider: the existence of the NFT platform, in this case, objkt.com, allows a curator with a reputation as strong as Meier’s to work directly with artists, without the regular mediation of institutions or galleries.

Unsigned brings attention to the fact that artworks signed by men increase in value, and decrease if signed by a woman, as Helen Gorrill reported in The Guardian. The collection now contains the signatures of 100 female-identifying and non-binary artists in the hopes of compensating for the negative value that signatures hold. While the pioneers of early net art like Olia Lialina and Auriea Harvey were heavily female, the NFT world is notoriously a boys club, giving the project another degree of impact.

We tend to think of signatures as physical and the very essence of “handmade”. They are an essential part of the art world, having first become prevalent during the early Renaissance with the shift from the co-operative guild systems to the individual artist. Could their role in the art world now be undergoing its own renaissance?

Шаг 2 — обмен USDN на SIGN

🔹 После авторизации переходим в раздел «$SIGN Token» (если кнопки нет, убедитесь, что вы находитесь на главной странице, а не в личном кабинете):

🔹 Переходим в раздел «Swap», выбираем нужное нам направление — USDN to SIGN, вводим необходимое кол-во USDN для обмена на SIGN. Старайтесь всегда оставлять 1 USDN на вашем кошельке для оплаты транзакционной комиссии, в случае если у вас нету токенов SIGN или WAVES, если же есть токены SIGN или WAVES — используем один из них в качестве токена для оплаты транзакционного сбора (на этапе подтверждения транзакции):

🔹 Если всё сделали верно, то токены SIGN должны будут сразу появиться в вашем кошельке, посмотреть это можно в личном кабинете SIGN Art:

🔹 Если же токены не появились (появилась ошибка), проверьте, хватает ли вам USDN для обмена, и имеются ли токены для подтверждения транзакции. Иногда нужно немного подождать или обновить страницу, чтобы купленные токены отобразились.

🔹 Напишите своё имя (или никнейм), свой email (ВНИМАНИЕ! Используйте почту на gmail.com, если её у вас нет — создавайте), waves address (номер своего кошелька Waves, да, тот самый начинающийся на 3P)

🔹 Так же укажите тип своего кошелька Waves. Если вы создали учетную запись, используя seed фразу, выберите “Waves Signer“, если при создании аккаунта использовались электронная почта + пароль, выберите тип “Waves E-Mail”:

Уточняющие вопросы или проверки после регистрации

⭕️ Вам может прийти сообщение, где будет написано, что в вашем портфолио, в основном, находится фанарт или работы с курсов. И от вас попросят подтверждение того, что вы не будете загружать фанарт и работы с курсов на SIGN Art. Вы должны будете отправить ответным письмом на английском языке, что да, подтверждаете что не будете выкладывать фанарт и работы с курсов.

⭕️ Вам может прийти сообщение, где будет указано, что ваш аккаунт с портфолио создан недавно, и от вас необходимо видео со слоями, и с упоминанием SIGN Art. Вы должны будете отправить ответным письмом видеозапись экрана, где будет открыта одна из ваших работ, и где будут видны слои этой работы, и на одном из этих слоёв будет написано SIGN Art (просто на новом слое).

⭕️ Вам может прийти сообщение, где вас попросят пройти верификацию вашего портфолио. Если вы уже это делали в инстаграме — просто отправьте ответным письмом ссылку на ваш аккаунт инстаграм, и ссылку на верификационный пост, который вы делали (с пометкой «I’m applying as a SIGN Art artist»).

Создаём профиль на SIGN Art

🔹 Жмём на кнопку «Log in» справа вверху:

🔹 Авторизуемся своим аккаунтом Waves, выбирав его тип — Для аккаунтов, созданных с помощью Email, нужно нажимать «Signer Email», для аккаунтов, созданных с помощью Seed фразы — «Signer Seed»:

🔹 Загрузите изображение вашей аватарки (максимум 80кб), и заполните необходимые поля вашего профиля (заполняем всё на английском языке) и нажмите на кнопку в самом низу:

После нажатия на кнопку «UPDATE INFORMATION», вы увидите окно подтверждения транзакции, это стандартная процедура взаимодействия с блокчейном, так что просто всегда жмите синюю кнопку «Confirm» (или «Sign»), и всегда выбирайте токен SIGN для подтверждения транзакций:

Будьте внимательны! Подтверждение транзакций стоит определенное кол-во токенов SIGN, имейте это ввиду. Если вы несколько раз будете обновлять информацию о себе, исправляя ошибки, токенов в конечном итоге вам может не хватить на выпуск NFT. Перед подтверждением транзакции проверьте, всё ли вы правильно заполнили.

Выпускаем свой первый NFT на SIGN Art

🔹 Переходим в раздел «+ Add artwork»:

В данном разделе мы будем сертифицировать свою художественную работу, для выпуска её в виде NFT.

Шаг 1.

Важно! Имя файла должно быть = названию вашей работы на английском языке.

После выбора исходника после под названием «Certificate reference» заполнится автоматически:

🔹 Нажмите кнопку “Certify the sources Now”:

Будьте внимательны! За сертификацию вашей работы у вас спишется сумма в токене SIGN, эквивалентная 0.5$. Не отправляйте более одного файла на сертификацию, получив бонусные 1100 токенов SIGN, в противном случае вам придётся докупать токены за свои деньги, чтобы выложить работу на продажу.

Шаг 2.

На данном шаге вам необходимо будет указать все данные о вашей работе, а так же, непосредственно, её загрузить. Все данные сохраняем на всякий случай в текстовый файл на вашем устройстве, чтобы в случае каких-либо проблем можно было это всё быстренько заново скопировать в соответствующие поля.

🔹 Указываем название и описание (напоминаю, всё заполняем на английском языке):

🔹 Далее, вам будет нужно загрузить два файла — экспортный файл, и превью файл.

Экспортный файл — это непосредственно файл вашей работы, экспортированный в JPG или PNG, если это статическое изображение, или MP4, если это анимация. Размер этого файла — чем больше, тем лучше (желательно от 2000px по ширине), но для MP4 он не должен быть более 2000px по любой стороне (для JPG или PNG таких ограничений нет). Вес — не более 70мб.

🔹 После того, как файлы подготовлены — загружаем их в соответствующие блоки:

🔹 Далее, пишем 5 тегов, т.е. слов, максимально в общих чертах описывающих вашу работу, типа — 3d,art,animation,moon,space (это просто пример). Они должны быть разделены запятыми. Теги nft и signart — использовать не нужно, тут всё NFT и всё находится на SIGN Art 🙂

После того, как написали 5 тегов, отмечаем чекбокс (ставим галочку), и жмём на кнопку «ADD TO SIGN ART» и подтверждаем транзакцию:

🔹 Готово! Теперь ваша работа загружена, и доступна в разделе «Created»:

Выставляем ваш NFT на продажу

🔹 Для того, чтобы выставить ваш NFT на продажу, вам необходимо перейти в раздел «Created», и выбрать там вашу работу:

🔹 Далее жмём кнопку «Set for sale»:

🔹 Далее, пройдёмся по всем пунктам:

Maximum NFT(s) issuable: 1Ставим 1, если это не коллекционные карточки.Обязательно проверьте! Что вы поменяли 0 на 1, иначе работа не будет выставлена на продажу.

Accepted currency: USDNВыбираем валюту продажи — токен USDN, он является эквивалентом доллара, и защищён от волатильности. Более подробно, в какой валюте можно выставляться и в чём отличия — написано в этой статье.

Requested price: 20-100 (в зависимости от сложности работы)Внимание! Это просто рекомендации! Цену на свои работы каждый художник определяет сугубо сам! Новичкам лучше продать несколько работ за небольшую стоимость — 20-25 USDN, чтобы привлечь внимание коллекционеров. Затем стоимость можно повышать до 30 — 60 USDN постепенно. На какие-то сложные работы можно изначально ставить ценник выше — 70-100 USDN.

Offer only? — Режим, при котором покупатели могут только предлагать свои офферы (ставки), и не могут купить вашу работу по фиксированной цене. Если вы новичек, галочка на этом чекбоксе значительно снизит внимание коллекционеров к вашей работе. Если же вы уже имеете свою аудиторию и постоянных коллекционеров — эта галочка уже желательна.

Даже если выставлена фиксированная стоимость на вашу работу — офферы (ставки) покупатели вам так же могут предлагать, но могут и купить ваш NFT по фиксированной цене, которую вы установили.

Time limit — Режим ограниченного по времени аукциона. Для новичков, так же, не нужен.

🔹 После того, как все параметры выставлены, нажимаем кнопку «SET FOR SALE» и подтверждаем транзакцию:

Как принять оффер (ставку) на ваш NFT

Офферы можно проверять либо на публичной странице вашей работы, либо в личном кабинете SIGN Art в разделе «Sales», либо просто подключить оповещения, и не париться с постоянными проверками.

🔹 Принимать оффер (ставку) нужно на публичной странице вашей работы, для этого переходим в публичный профиль вашего аккаунта SIGN Art и выбираем там ту работу, на которую пришёл оффер:

🔹 В самом низу будут ставки от коллекционеров, вверху — самая высокая ставка. Проверьте эквивалент ставки в $, и если он вас устраивает, жмите на кнопку «Accept»:

🔹 После подтверждения транзакции, средства придут на ваш кошелёк, с вычетом комиссии маркетплейса.

Как поделиться ссылкой на ваш NFT в твиттере

🔹 Переходим в публичный профиль вашего аккаунта SIGN Art:

🔹 Выбираем вашу художественную работу, которой вы хотите поделиться.

🔹 На странице работы жмём на иконку твиттера, затем ОБЯЗАТЕЛЬНО удаляем автоматическое превью (нажав крестик), которое предлагает твиттер, и загружаем в пост наш превью файл этой работы (нажав на иконку картинки слева внизу)

Далее, с новой строки вставляем данную конструкцию:

Если при вставке этой ссылки пропадает картинка, которую вы загрузили, нужно будет просто её (картинку) ещё раз загрузить в твит.

И только после этого всего нажимаем «Твитнуть»:

🔹 Если иконки картинки слева внизу нет (не активна) — попробуйте использовать другое устройство или браузер для выкладывания работы в твиттер.

Обязательно сразу пройдитесь по твитам других художников за последние пару дней и поставьте лайки и ретвиты на размещённые посты (можно не на все, но хотя бы 5-7 ретвитов сделать нужно сразу). Смотреть ссылки на твиты проще всего и удобнее во вкладке информации о группе:

Как получить статус Approve (галочку)

Если у вас уже выложены на SIGN Art минимум 3 работы, и с момента вашей регистрации прошло 2 недели или более, вы можете подать заявку на Approve (аппрув), чтобы находиться в главном блоке художников, и чтобы все ваши работы, после загрузки на SIGN Art появлялись на главной странице.

🔹 Нажмите «Yes», чтобы открыть поля формы для заполнения.

🔹 Введите свой email, ниже вставьте ваш номер кошелька Waves (Waves Address), и в следующем поле вставьте ссылку на свой профиль на SIGN Art:

Получить ссылку на свой профиль можно кликнув на «Public page» в личном кабинете SIGN Art, и скопировав после этого адресную строку браузера:

🔹 Далее, вставьте ссылки на три свои самые лучшие, по вашему мнению, работы, загруженные на SIGN Art, и в поле ниже введите свой контакт для связи — ссылку на аккаунт твиттера или инстаграма, после этого нажмите кнопку «Submit»:

Hazy Artworks

Depressed by day, anxious by night. I create photomanipulations and digital collages

Sorry for the two digital collage artists, but Hazy Artworks has a distinctly different feel than Brandon. I particularly like their collection of collages that have plain, muted backgrounds. They are simple, but striking. I know I’ve written before about a subject placed in the center of a blank background, but I think the images and consistent color balance of these images makes up for it.

Digital signatures but not NFTs

Configuring rarity weights

The rarity_weights key can take three values: None, ‘random’, or a Python list. Let’s explore each value one by one.

NoneIf you set the rarity_weights value to None, each trait will be assigned an equal weight. Therefore, if you have 5 traits, each trait will appear in roughly 20% of the avatars.

In case required is False, it will be equally likely to not get that particular trait at all. In the previous case, if the required property was set to false, then each trait would appear in roughly 16.6% of the avatars. Another 16.6% of avatars would not have that particular trait at all.

Python ListThis is probably the most common way of assigning rarity weights.

The first thing to do is to go to your trait category folders and sort the trait images by Name. For instance, sorting the Wristbands folder will yield this for us:

If required is set to True, then the number of weights should be equal to the number of traits for that category. If required is set to False, then the number of weights should be equal to the number of traits plus one.

In our case, if wristbands were required, we would define nine weights in the list and if it wasn’t required, we would define ten weights. In the latter case, the first weight would be the weight associated with not having the wristband at all.

Let’s take a look at the rarity_weights we defined for Wristbands.

Since wristbands aren’t required, we have set ten weights (nine plus one). The first weight is the weight associated with not having a wristband at all. The second weight is associated with the Cheetah band, the third weight is associated with the Giraffe band, and so on. Note the alphabetical order here.

The higher the weight, the more common a particular trait is. For instance, Cheetah has a weight of 5, and not having a band has a weight of 100. This means that having a Cheetah band is 20 times rarer than not having a band at all.

He started exhibiting in 1989, participating since then in some of the most important festivals in the world, and he is considered a pioneer in the field of Net Art and Queer Filmmaking in Latin America. His research is focused on volumetric imaging, interactive web development, and creative coding. All his works and projects are available online at www.santi.t

For those of you who love a traditional background, this art professor should fulfill your qualification needs. His background definitely supports his pricing which is 550 waves (or about $8,500 right now) for this video piece, which I highly suggest you click on if you’d like to see an example of what a video/animation/moving image can look like when created by experienced hands.

For anyone else currently on SIGN-Art, we’d love to hear about your favorites. These are our recommended investment artists, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t others who are equally, or more!, talented than the ones we’ve come across ourselves.

Add your custom assets

In the generative-art-nft repository that you downloaded, you will see that there is an assets folder. If you have your custom trait artwork available with you, go ahead and replace the contents of this folder with your assets. In our case, our assets folder had 8 subfolders representing categories named appropriately (see above), and each subfolder had trait images of that particular category.

If you do not have custom artwork, leave the default assets folder as is.

The Generation Process

The squirrels that you see above were generated by stacking PNG images on top of one another. Although no blue-chip NFT projects describe how they generate their art, we are certain that this is what they do too. Almost every NFT avatar that you see is a set of stacked PNG images (which makes the claims that they are just JPEGs false. Checkmate, NFT critics).

Starting from the top right, if you stack every trait image clockwise, one after the other, you will end up with the image in the center. Here are few things to note:

Therefore, the artist’s job is to create multiple images of various trait categories. You can have as many or as few trait categories as you want. Do keep in mind though that the number of possible combinations increases exponentially with the number of traits categories.

In the Scrappy Squirrels project, we created 8 trait categories.

Each trait category had a varying number of trait images. For instance, we had 11 different shirts to work with.

Now, it’s your turn. You will need to decide on trait categories that you want to work with and generate trait images for each category. Make sure they satisfy the conditions mentioned above (should be of the same dimension, should be correctly positioned, etc). Also, make sure you name the trait images appropriately. What you name your image is what will appear in the metadata file.

Once you are done with this, we are now ready to use the library to generate our collection automatically! If you are not an artist (or do not have access to one), don’t worry! We have some sample images that you can play around with.

NOTE:At present, the library is only capable of handling PNG images. We will be adding support for other media types soon.

Launched on 11 September 2018 by an international team, Signature Chain describes itself as a dApp on the Waves Platform that provides data certification, along with mutual agreement certificates and e-mail certificates. The dApp supports FIAT transactions to purchase SIGN tokens and requires no browser extension and/or download.

As of mid 2020, Signature Chain has started work on SIGN Art, a certified digital art gallery utilizing the main sign-web.app certification functions to prove the authenticity of digital art source files. Configure the config. py file

This is the last (and perhaps, the most important step) before we can generate our avatar collection. Open the config.py file and fill it up according to the instructions below.

A trait category dictionary has 5 keys that it needs. These are id, name, directory, required, and rarity_weights. When creating a new layer (or replacing an existing one), make sure all these keys are defined.

This is how you go about assigning value to each key.

These square images all sold between $20-$50, but you’ll need to wait for his next collection considering everything is sold out right now! At first I thought these were just beautifully balanced geometric patterns. Then I looked a little harder (which all good art should compel you to do) and realized there are seascapes and buildings hidden in these lines. I love the peaceful feeling of these colors and the creativity of hiding images in lines.

Luciano Boccardini

This long-time painter adds pictures of his work along with accompanying quotes or poems. We love these paintings and wish he had more information about the medium used and original creation, but despite that, this is still excellent work. This is the only physical artist who turned digital on our list, so if you like buying from artists who have already made it in the physical world, this is a good one to consider.

Generating the collection

Once you’ve configured the config.py file, it is now time to generate your collection. Open up your Terminal (or Command Prompt) and navigate to the generative-art-nft folder (using the cd command).

Running this command will initiate the image generation program. It will first check that the config.py file is valid. Next, it will tell you about the total number of distinct possible combinations.

It will then ask you how many avatars you’d like to create. We suggest creating 20% more than what you want to create so you have plenty left over even after the removal of duplicates. In our case, we chose to create 12,000 avatars although we wanted 10,000. It will then ask you to name the collection, and will then begin the generation process.

It took us approximately 30 minutes to generate 11,957 avatars (after removing duplicates). The images and their related metadata will be available in the output folder.

The images folder will look something like this (note that this is only a sample and not the final squirrels that we generated).

The metadata file is a CSV file that you can import into Excel and analyze (for things like which trait is the rarest, which trait combination is the most common, avatar rarity ranking, etc.)

We love this series of digital collages from Brandon. They feel seamless and intentional. If you look closely at the edges, there are no awkward rough-cuts where the background of the original images were removed. You can tell this artist treated these collages like art rather than commercial NFTs to roll out for the money. To get these clean cuts and seamless blending, he probably spent hours zoomed in and cleaning up images. The result is positive, beautiful imagery related to black culture and beauty as he sees it.
