Overview of Your Farm

For starters, you’ll be given a farm with plots of land for you to plant and harvest various crops on. At the upper part of the farm is the Barn where you can raise animals for their produce.

There’s the Animal that shows you which animals you can raise, and there’s the Rare tab that contains craftable NFTs to provide massive bonuses to your farm production.

At the center of the farm is your Home which shows your skills and levels, then just on the lower right portion is the Shop buy and sell crops as well as craft NFTs to boost your crop production.

Close to the Shop is a Wishing Well which involves LP tokens and the Blacksmith which allows you to craft various tools and NFTs that give further bonuses.

At the right corner is the Kitchen where you can cook various food and the Bank which allows you to deposit and withdraw your SFL Tokens starting April 15.

The last point of interest is the Tailor which allows you to create a flag from a wide selection of flags.

Give me gas, not water

At press time, 281,062 addresses were holding the Sunflower Farm token. Meanwhile, the top holder – with 850,045.345498411066728381 SFF tokens to their name – was the network’s largest gas guzzler even at the time of writing.

At press time as well, gas prices on Polygon were extravagant, with the standard fee at around 499 gwei.

Not a sunny transition

This development comes soon after the Polygon team divulged the details of a “critical network vulnerability” that allegedly took place in early December. Two white hat hackers reportedly shed light on the vulnerability, which put more than $20 billion at risk.

The Polygon team decided to fix the issue without making it public at the time. Still, around 801,601 MATIC was stolen by a hacker. Though one can argue that the network skimmed past the potential disaster, Polygon didn’t start 2022 on the best note.

One reason for this was MATIC, which was changing hands at $2.11. This price came after a 13.31% drop in a single day, and a 15.10% drop in the past week.

Once upon a December

The last month of the year may have disappointed investors with price falls, but the scene was very different in the NFT sector. Dune Analytics showed that OpenSea’s Polygon Monthly NFTs sold hit a new high in December 2021 with almost two million NFTs going to new galleries.

It’s also worth noting that the milestone put Polygon ahead of even Ethereum in terms of NFTs sold that month.

Many investors, traders, and even developers have turned to Polygon to get away from Ethereum’s high gas fees. However, if more gas guzzling games like Sunflower Farmers come into play, Polygon’s current status as a gas fee safe haven could also change.

Andrew Thurman was a tech reporter at CoinDesk with a focus on DeFi.

A transaction on Polygon now costs roughly 500 gwei, or $0.50, up from fractions of a cent. Additionally, the number of active addresses on Polygon’s proof-of-stake chain has spiked 60% in a single week, with more than 200,000 accounts transacting on the chain. Current speculation is that many of those addresses are “bots.”

Likewise, one Delphi Labs developer said that the incident is a prime example of why more games should have dedicated, application-specific chains, such as Axie Infinity’s Ronin.

Polygon’s MATIC token is up 1% on the day to $2.24, while Sunflower Farm’s SFF is down 59% to $0.613760.

How to play

First, you will have to download and access the MetaMask wallet. Then, you will connect Metamask to the Polygon Network. The game requires you to have $MATIC in the wallet to play the game. It has a minimum fee, and you can begin by owning just $1 worth of MATIC in most cases. Unless the price fluctuates too much.

• After finishing up, you will click on Beta and connect through Discord Account to the game. It will provide you with the FarmLand.

• The entire game works on generating SFL and gathering other resources to create items or upgrades.

• Acquiring SFL is easy. All you need to do is buy some crops, grow them, then sell them. You will then continue this chain by purchasing more seeds, growing crops and selling them. Eventually, as you upgrade the farm, you will have more land to plant crops, increasing the SFL mining.

• Another aspect of the game is creating items. These items are the axe, pickaxe, statues, scarecrows and many other additions. You will have various resource requirements like 100 Woods, 100 Stones, and 100 SFL to mint these items.

As the game is in Beta Mode, more additions will arrive as the game progresses. From the addition of scarecrows to scare off crows, one could assure there will be growth. Eventually, PvE, or even PvP elements, keep the game interesting. For now, it is a straightforward crypto mining game.

Sunflower Farm tokens

The game has a single SFL (Sunflower Land) token for you to use. Other things, like the Farm, Seeds, Crops, and Items, are NFTs. Therefore, you can buy and sell these NFTs on platforms like Opensea.

Developers are also working on adding various rare and limited items to boost the value of the NFTs. These include decorations like Farm Cat, Gnome, Sunflower Cake and boosters like Chicken Coop, Scarecrow, and others. These will keep the game interesting.

For SFL, you will need MetaMask, and it is also available on listings as SFF. So, you can keep track of its value, as well.

What is Sunflower Farmers?

Sunflower Farmers is a Play-to-Earn NFT farming game launched on the polygon network. In the quest for building farming empires in the game, players are required to plant, mine, craft, fish, fight, and perform more tasks.

Players can earn Sunflower Farm tokens by planting and harvesting crops. For example, you can purchase sunflower seeds for $0.0002 SFF, harvest them, and sell them for $0.0004 SFF. Not just sunflowers, but potatoes, pumpkin, cauliflower, radish, and other vegetables, are available for farming. SFF is the native token of the Sunflower Farmers project.

What is Sunflower Farmers?

In order to gather resources, you need specific tools. In order to craft such tools that can help you gather more materials, you need to use a range of other resources in the game that is designed as ERC20 contracts.

Once you collect wood, iron, or any other material, you have complete ownership of the item in the game.

How to Play the Game

When you first start playing the game, you’ll only be given a single plot of land which can hold up to 5 crops. The other plots are unlocked until you get rid of the four little goblins on the farm.

To start farming, simply go to the Shop and buy the seeds you want to plant. After that, simply go to your plot of land and click on an empty spot to plant your seeds.

The amount of time it takes for your crops to grow will depend on the crop you planted. Some will take just a few minutes while others will take hours.

Once your crops are fully grown, you can then harvest them and sell them to the Shop to get SFL. Don’t forget to plant new crops in the newly vacant spots.

Now, to get rid of the goblins, you have to go to the Kitchen and craft the food they want. After crafting their required food, simply give it to them to unlock the entire plots of land, allowing you to maximize the number of crops you can plant.

One thing to keep in mind is that there’s a limited number of seeds in the shop at any given time. If you want to buy a seed that’s already out of stock, what you can do is click on Sync to sync your farm data on chain.

However, you’ll have to pay the 0.1 MATIC fee every single time you want to resync.

The good thing is that 0.1 MATIC barely amounts to anything, so this fee is actually dirt cheap.

What is Sunflower Farm

Sunflower Farm is a traditional NFT-game in the aspect that you craft and mine in the game. It is a simple, click-based game that focuses on your farm. As a Farm Land owner, you buy and grow crops. These crops are Sunflower, Pumpkins, Potatoes and such. You will have to upgrade different buildings, acquire more space for crops, and mine areas, including stones and rocks, to progress in the game.

After the first successful run, the developers decided to rework the project and named it ‘Sunflower Land.’ The entire mechanism is similar, but it is bound to have better tokenomics and features.

Current Status

The Sunflower Farmers project has released a statement on their website, which reads:

What started as a side project by a group of friends ended up becoming something we never could have anticipated.

It grew so quickly and unfortunately, the game was abused by malicious actors to the point where it was difficult for people to play. Now that we have this amazing community, we feel it is our duty to build a game that will be sustainable for the years to come. In order to do so, we are in the progress of making some much-needed upgrades.

Amongst these upgrades include anti-botting mechanisms, efficient gas prices, secure smart contracts, and of course, more gameplay.

It is understood that the team has realized and noted the loopholes in the project and is working towards building something better. According to further reports found on their website, a new contract will be released in which all tokens and items collected in the game will be transferred into the new Sunflower Land ecosystem. Snapshot has been taken, and all data will be transferred when the new contract is released. 

The Sunflower Farmers streamed an AMA session on January 7th to address the current state of the game and to address the future of the project.

How it works

Where to Find Resources and How to Use Them

There are several resources in the game, but perhaps the most important is Gold. This resource can be used to craft a variety of NFT items that will grant significant bonuses to your farm. In other to get gold, you’ll need wood first.

To start, head down to the NPC just below the Blacksmith. Go back to the Blacksmith and craft an Axe to start collecting wood. However, do take note that you’ll use one Axe for every tree you farm, so if you want to farm plenty of wood from several trees, you’ll have to craft lots of Axes.

Trees will grow back after 2 hours, until which you can then farm them again for wood. However, if you have the Apprentice Beaver, you’ll shorten the recovery period to just one hour. If you want to increase your wood collection, you’ll want to get Woody the Beaver for 20% more wood drops. If you have the Foreman Beaver, then you’ll no longer need an Axe to cut trees.

However, these items don’t come cheap, so you want to save up for when they become available.

Another valuable resource you want is Stone. To collect stone, you have to craft a Pickaxe. Just like the trees, you’ll consume one pickaxe for every Stone you harvest.

With enough wood and stone, you can go back to the Blacksmith and craft a Stone Pickaxe which you’ll need to collect Iron. After getting enough Iron, the next thing you should do is craft an Iron Pickaxe that lets you collect Gold.

There’s only one Gold ore that is located on top of the map, and it will take 24 hours for it to fully recover.

As of now, there are still lots of stuff in the game that are still locked, so information about them is still pretty scarce.

The tokenomics of the Sunflower Farmers game are designed so that as more people join the game, the overall supply increases, and the rewards decrease. 

This means that someone playing in the early days will receive significantly more rewards for harvesting a sunflower than late joiners. This scheme led to high participation, which attacked the Polygon network.
