In collaboration with Portion and 3D visual artist Antoni Tudisco, the iconic designer Philipp Plein marks Milan Fashion week by launching the first-ever fashion line originating in the Metaverse.

On the heels of his $1.4M USD acquisition of Decentraland’s Plein Plaza, a prime district covering 65 Decentraland parcels, the fashion entrepreneur extends his collaboration with Portion by unveiling the first phase of the development of the Plein Plaza, a 120 meter high virtual skyscraper. The first establishment in the building will be the Philipp Plein founded Museum of NFT Arts (MONA), designed as an open forum for the development of digital art aimed at encouraging and showcasing young NFT artists.

The inauguration includes a guided tour of Plein’s immersive art world in the Metaverse together with an exhibition of a series of unreleased NFTs designed by the 2022 established art duo “Crypto Kings” a pseudonym for the collaboration between Philipp Plein and world-renowned NFT artist Antoni Tudisco.

Interconnectivity within the artistic community is one of the most powerful creative forces of inspiration and reinforcement. It has been Portion’s goal since day one to inspire creatives with both vision and perseverance to benefit from using our platform.

With that said, we would like to announce that professional Marvel artists have decided to make Portion.io their home, and will be releasing approximately 25 unique Marvel pieces on the Portion.io platform. Some of the NFTs will also be used to redeem the physical and original hand drawn work. We see value in working with individuals that have been able to channel some of the most creative and iconic Art in history. To celebrate this merging, The first NFTs come with original hand drawn art by the marvel artists. The first wave of artists are Dan Panosian, Matteo Scalera, Dave Johnson, Andy Kubert, Adam Kubert, and Eric Canete.

We have successfully partnered with Essential Sequential. The original artwork, books, prints and more from some of the most recognizable names within the industry can all be found here. Over time, we believe that our platform will become the place for the merging of iconic Art and digital permanence. For over a decade, Essential Sequential has been the preeminent agency of authentic comic book art from some of the worlds most beloved and talented artists. Owner, founder and curator, Jason Schachter, has turned his love of the comic book industry into a thriving agency. Essential Sequential has brought their clients closer to hundreds of thousands of fans and has made their original artwork available to enthusiasts like himself.

While we are by no means limiting ourselves purely to the comic niche, consistent growth and onboarding of reputable artists is expected to begin to tether our robust platform with a higher degree of visibility and identity in the blossoming world of NFT’s and digital collectibles.

2 Chainz in collaboration with Trevor Andrew aka GUCCIGHOST released a 1/1 NFT titled «Pretty Girls Like Trap NFTs,» commemorating the 4 year anniversary of 2 Chainz’s iconic fourth studio album, «Pretty Girls Like Trap Music.» It sold for 10.25 ETH.

Digital Art

Digital art was at the forefront of NFT adoption in early 2021 and is still leading in one-of-a-kind 1/1 NFTs. 3D art is one of the most popular mediums seen on various NFT marketplaces, such as SuperRare and Portion.

3D art combines art and technology resembling the future that is crypto and eventually the metaverse. Perhaps the technological nature and its distinguished aesthetic are the reason NFT collectors are attracted.

A beautiful piece and example from one of our Portion artists is Malineide. Malineide was created by visual and CGI artist Berenice Golmann, expressing this NFT as a liquid flower from the greater North of Brand New World.

The Singaporean 3D virtual model creator, Shavonne Wong, and fashion photographer, Lenne Chai, collaborated on a series to document their lives and curate their fond memories. By Proxy is a 3D model work curated by Quantum that brings diversity and questions if our memories can truly be manipulated and sculpted digitally from our desired version of the truth into a digital asset.

The overall NFT market has seen a growth in minting and trading volume since the market pullback in March. PFP projects still dominate the NFT market with the highest market cap and trading volume, according to Nansen. Utility is a major value driver in these PFP projects, such as the top blue-chip PFP project Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC).

However, the crypto art market has championed single editions with significant sales by the likes of Beeple’s Everyday’s: The First 5000 Days, Julian Assange and Pak’s Clock, and XCopy’s Right-click and Save As Guy.

1) TOHI X Antoni Tudisco

In May, Persian artist, producer and icon, TOHI, dropped his first ever NFT collection in collaboration with legendary artist Antoni Tudisco to celebrate nature and spirituality on the eve of Eid. The collection sold out for 27.33 ETH!

Anime

Azuki launched in January this year with sales volume surpassing BAYC in April, kickstarting a new demand and trend for Anime NFTs. Arnold Tsang, former character art director at Blizzard Entertainment, is the lead artist of Azuki’s 10,000 avatars.

Although Azuki’s role for setting up the Anime-themed trend in NFT cannot be replaced, the recent scandal has catastrophically hit the floor price and the image of this project. On May 10th, a blog post by one of the founders of Azuki named Zagabond revealed the success of Azuki was built on the learning experiences from his past projects, which included CryptoPhunks, Tendies and CryptoZunks. All three mentioned projects were “abandoned” by the original founders, and the growing anger from these communities toward him resulted in a massive sell-off with a floor price low of 8.1 ETH on May 12th, compared to a floor of 30 ETH on May 3rd, 7 days before the news.

Online Credential

Vitalik along with his peers E. Glen Weyl and Puja Ohlhaver recently released the research paper Decentralized Society: Finding Web3’s Soul introducing the idea and theory behind Soul-Bound Tokens (SBT).

Credentials such as academic or education qualifications are best for non-transferable NFTs. Education and on-chain resume projects like 101.xyz and Noox issue online credentials as Soulbound NFTs when completing certain tasks. People’s NFTs are therefore unique identifiers that may be utilized as their on-chain identification to access new options.

Digital art is currently the most dominant case for NFT use, ranging from visual art, generative art, music, video, photography and more.

Ticketing

Presented as a NFT—the short film The Death of David Cronenberg— is a one-minute film collaboration between the Canadian film director David Cronenberg and his daughter and Photographer Caitlin Cronenberg. In this film, David Cronenberg explores mortality, metamorphosis of life and death to embrace his own death and the circle of life.

A year in the making, the Madonna and Beeple collaboration Mother of Creation is a series of 3 NFTs. The triptych connects Madonna’s original text, music lyrics and Rumi’s poem with Beeple’s 3D visualization in nature’s journey for creation with the backdrop of technology.

19) Art Basel (aka NFT Basel)

This is the first time NFTs had a major presence at Art Basel and Portion was there to make an appearance! As the digital and physical worlds merge and become harmonious with one another, we wanted to extend a welcome hand to those in the traditional world. For many of them, this was their first time meeting and engaging with the NFT community outside of crazy headlines.

Portion took part in and hosted 4 amazing events including The Temporal Gallery, SLS South Beach Miami Hotel, a gallery party on a yacht, and Factory Town, helping us meet our community full of creators and collectors.

Artist Ty Hays and Milliner Teressa Foglia sold the first ever NFT hat, «It’s All in Your Head,» for 2 ETH on Portion! This genesis piece included a digital NFT, physical artwork, and bespoke 1/1 physical hat.

Publicis Sapient, a digital business transformation company, announced its partnership with Portion, to collaborate on two initiatives that will allow Publicis Sapient’s clients to extend their brands into Web 3.0, including the metaverse, and evolve the customer experience.

17) First Indian Dress NFT Sold by Ravi Guru Singh

Ravi Guru Singh, a Brooklyn based lawyer and digital creator, minted the first traditional Indian fashion NFT collection. His Indian dress NFT was the first of its kind to be displayed in Decentraland and crossed over in real life via AR. The minted lehenga choli became a cultural milestone for a country of 1.3 billion people.

14) Digital Fashion Month

Throughout the month of October, Portion hosted Digital Fashion Month, an exhibition highlighting leading artists and creators specializing in the new frontier of digital fashion as we were seeking to explore what fashion would look like in the digital age and how it might evolve in the Metaverse. We had the honor of featuring 50+ creators and hosted fashion events across the metaverse!

Portion had the pleasure of holding an exclusive auction for digital fashion trendsetter, The Fabricant, and their Pluriform collection, advocating for gender diversity and inclusion in the digital fashion space. The Fabricant is the world’s first digital-only fashion house with design garments only existing digitally that collectors’ avatars can «wear» on social media platforms, in gaming environments, and in virtual worlds («the metaverse»).

Membership

Memberships are quite a common use case for NFTs since they are great for token-gating communities.

PROOF Collective by PROOF

PROOF by Kevin Rose and team are the genius minds behind the recent white-hot PFP project Moonbirds. Prior to Moonbirds, PROOF released its membership NFT PROOF Collective with a limited number of 1000 collectors in total. Members could enjoy numerous perks including a private discord, early access to the PROOF podcast, exclusive alphas, in-person events, airdrops and early access to future projects. Each PROOF member was airdropped two Moonbirds when the NFT collection launched on April 16, 2022.

Another example is Water & Music, a music research DAO that empowers music industry professionals. To access their global community filled with musical artists, founders and tastemakers, a membership is needed which comes in the form of an NFT.

Real-estate digital assets

On Vesta, homeowners decide how much percentage of the residential property underlying value they wish to tokenize, then investors can invest as little as 0.01% of the property value in the form of NFTs.

Photography

Photography NFTs have been a big theme since late 2021 and are still going strong in 2022. The CEO of Quantum Art and LA-based photographer, Justin Aversano, sold his crypto art, «Twin Flames #83. Bahareh & Farzaneh Safarani,» at Christie’s for a landmark result of $1,100,000 as the first photography NFT offered at a major auction house. This 100-piece photography collection is in honor of his fraternal twin and aims to create a body of work focused on the existence of multiple births and the phenomena of twindom through an immersive portrait.

Subsequently, his “Twin Flames #49. Alyson & Courtney Aliano” from the same collection was sold for 871 ETH, about $3,000,000. The work and the 871 ETH fund became the treasury of the RAW DAO, a DAO to support photographers and collect photography NFTs.

Many photographers are shining through Portion, such as photographer Brandt Ryder with his high dimensionality landscape and nightscape works, as well as Ante Badzim who captures the honest beauty of the Middle East in his work Nomad through his minimalist imagery approach.

Physically-backed NFTs

Physical-item NFTs might not be the first thought that comes to mind in the conversation about NFTs. However, there are many benefits to bringing physical assets on-chain.

A physically-backed NFT allows NFT holders to have transparency for asset history, traceable provenance, authentication, and asset condition reports. It also makes physical assets cheaper and more efficient to trade on web3-native platforms.

4k is a protocol and a marketplace for minting physically-backed NFTs on Ethereum. Sellers can connect with 4k, ship the desired physical asset to sell, and mint an NFT. The physical asset will be stored at a 4k warehouse as the minted physically-backed NFT is listed and traded on its marketplace. Watches, sneakers, electronics, trading cards, casascius, and other collectibles are among the physical items available on its NFT platform.

6) Grand Opening of Portion Museum in Decentraland

In July, Portion debuted the grand opening of a museum in Decentraland’s Voltaire district. Featuring OG and emerging crypto artists with 7 floors of cutting-edge NFT artwork open to the public. The Portion museum has since provided immense benefits for the Portion community and has helped increase the visibility of artwork whilst providing a fun and interactive space for virtual events, auctions, and exhibits, to heighten connectivity between artists, creators, collectors, and fans.

11) Kevin Abosch’s «Spider-Stan» Resells for 61 ETH on Portion

The famed conceptual artist Kevin Abosch’s ‘Spider-Stan’ NFT  resold for over $191,000 (61 ETH) on Portion’s secondary market! It first sold on Portion for 61 ETH back in February 2021, or $88K at the time. This portrait of Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee by Kevin Abosch was taken in Los Angeles in 1996 and is scheduled to land on the moon on NASA’s United Launch Alliance Vulcan rocket.

7) SUPAHOTFIRE Turns Viral Meme Into NFT

The one of a kind NFT “SIKE! (Ohhhh)” featuring Supa Hot Fire vs B- Bone: the most famous scene in the series where two «rappers » battle amongst a crowd, was dropped on Portion and sold for 5 ETH.

8) Be Svendsen X Android Jones X Mikelis

The merge of these artists’ worlds became the storyline of transformational experience. This culminated a Portion exclusive drop that fused Be Svendsen’s analogue organic sound and feel, with Android Jones’ digital dreamscapes, all directed by Mikelis. With a collection of four NFTs combining video and audio, they introduced the order of the universe: The Circle, Hexagon, Triangle, and Square.

Together the four pieces symbolize the stages of a transformational journey – letting go, surrendering, inner space, outer space, dissolving, spiritual growth and homecoming — the return to essence and form, with a change. The Portion exclusive collection ended up selling for over ~$65K.
