Invisible Friends: Why some people disagree with whitelist rulesThe fact that the post had over 1000 likes (at the time of writing) indicates that many people agree with Cory.

Although Invisible Friends is not the first NFT project to host contests in order to earn whitelist spots, it is without a doubt the one that has hosted the most contests to date. The NFT community has remained divided for months on the utility of art. But when a project truly centered on quality and community comes around, why force the issue? That’s exactly what the Invisible Friends NFT project is — a collection of art that could stand on its own merit. But what is it exactly?
As its name implies, Invisible Friends is an animated PFP collection of invisible people. So does that mean the collection is a coy way of packaging a collection of backdrops as a PFP NFT project? Or a nightmare fuel attempt at realistically depicting a transparent character model of a human? Far from it.

A brief history of Invisible Friends
“Invisible Friends has and will always be about digital collectability of high quality digital animated art,” said Invisible Friends’ Head of Stuff coinbilly in an interview with nft now. Fans of Magnusson specifically also have another compelling reason to support the project. “Markus has been creating his whole life and this collection is a culmination of his skills and experiences. It also acts as a pass to all of his future work,” coinbilly said.
However, Magnussen’s journey into the NFT landscape didn’t take place overnight. As such, the true genesis of the Invisible Friends NFT project can be traced back to when James Curran founded the Random Character Collective (RCC) in November 2021. To kickstart the launch of this new animator-led collective, Curran tapped his network to find like-minded artists interested in “creating generative collections with the help of the team he put together,” coinbilly said. Among the new collective’s very first members was Magnussen, with work underway to get the artist started on his then-undeveloped NFT collection.

Where & When To Buy?
It’s looking like 2022 is trending to be the year of grassroot whitelisting and really making you earn your WL spot. On top of owning other RCC NFTs to get whitelisted, a number of other ways to get WL can be found on their Discord.
One new, and interesting, way to get whitelisted was announced last week. Invisible Friends is dropping its merch store on January 28th, which will be open for pre-sale buys. But there’s a nice catch: 50 people who buy the pre-sale merch bundle will be randomly selected and added to the highly sought after WL for early access minting.
The link for their merch store can be found here.

What is the Random Character Collective?
Essentially, Random Character Collective is a collective of animated generative projects. It all started when James Curran, a.k.a, SlimJim, was working on his NFT project, SlimHoods.
“While working on SlimHoods, I always had the idea in the back of my mind that I wanted to use everything I was learning when creating my own animated generative project to help other animators do the same,” SlimJim wrote in a Discord message. “There are many generative NFT collections out there, but still very few animated collections despite there being so many extremely talented animators in the NFT world.”
He then collaborated with artists working on animated generative projects and launched the collective. While the collective launched SlimHoods in October, MoodRollers by Lucas Zanott was launched in December.

By design, Invisible Friends NFTs don’t just look cool. They’re also incredibly inclusive, even somewhat functioning as a beacon of diversity in the space. But how is that, when each Invisible Friends NFT gives no visual indication of the race, gender, and overall appearance of each invisible character?
Turns out, that exclusion of information is a great way to foster inclusion. Without this information on each Invisible Friends, anyone, regardless of background, should be able to project themselves onto their NFTs. And this was done on purpose.
Covered
Markus has teamed up Random Character Collective (RCC), which recently had two NFT launches of their own: SlimHoods and Mood Rollers. Invisible Friends will be the third project launched by RCC and is, by far, the most anticipated to date. One thing you might notice about the three projects is a glaring similarity between them — they’re all GIF NFTs.

Also, it’s good to note that these projects are intertwined in another way; owning SlimHoods and Mood Rollers is the best way to get whitelisted for Invisible Friends. A classic case of GIF NFT friends helping friends!
Since this announcement, these two projects have seen an influx of sales and volume. The floor price for each has gone from approx. 0.15 ETH, now approaching 2 ETH at the time of publishing.

So, how can you get on the whitelist?
Once you reach above level 10 in Discord, you can participate in mini-games to get on the whitelist. Alternatively, if you are an artist, then creating unique and creative fan art can also get you in on the coveted list.
“Additionally, our community mods keep track of who is best deserving of the role, therefore if they notice you being helpful or bring a good vibe, you might just have a chance!” the project added.
Besides, 50% of the WL spots will be reserved for SlimHoods and Mood Rollers holders. So, if none of the above options works out, then you may want to consider buying any of these NFTs.

What’s next for Invisible Friends?
Not content to rest on their laurels, Magnussen and the rest of the Invisible Friends team have remained committed to the project long after its initial mint. This is evidenced by the project’s roadmap, headlined by the previously mentioned collaboration with apparel brand Kith, as well as 3D animator Nguyen Nhut. So what makes these collaborations so noteworthy?

While Magnusson is the creator of the Invisible Friends NFT collection, the collection itself is part of the Random Character Collective. They recently launched two other projects, SlimHoods and Mood Rollers.
The Ethereum-based Invisible Friends NFT collection is slated to release in February 2022. Unlike most NFT projects, Invisible Friends is planning to make the drop completely pre-sale. This means, your best chance to get your hands on these impressive NFTs is to get on the whitelist.
