«Я всегда через искусство выражал свои чувства и размышлял о тех, кто для меня важнее всего, — о моей семье, друзьях и людях, которыми я восхищаюсь», — сказал Депп. Желающие смогут приобрести цифровые копии портретов Хита Леджера, Тима Бертона, Элизабет Тейлор, Марлона Брандо и Хантера Томпсона, самого Деппа, а также его дочери Лили-Роуз, его пса Му и выдуманного сыном актера персонажа Баннимена.
Ранее Депп не показывал свое художественное творчество. По словам актера, он не хотел, чтобы его картины пользовались успехом только потому, что людям нравится его актерские работы. Поэтому долгое время Депп скрывал свою любовь с живописи.

Aftermath
As of today, floor price on OpenSea is 0.395 ETH. This is not unusual for the floor price of a project to drop after reveal, in fact it is very common. There are some real concerns though from the holders, legitimate ones that must be address.
Firstly, the actual promotion from the team behind this project (not doxxed by the way — only Johnny Depp himself is the public face and a quiet one at that) have underperformed in a big way.
All this does not paint a good picture. Yet, there is hope. The team on Discord continues to cite big upcoming collabs — still at early phases and has to go through lawyers etc. first. There has also been the hiring of a new social media person, there should be a marked improvement there soon.
Also, there is the continued fact that this is a piece of art from Johnny Depp as an official NFT, with excellent rarity and the opportunity to procure a one of a kind print from ownership of same. NFT 1111 sold for 13 ETH (!!) and although floor is low, it is only 2 days since reveal and many holders just need liquidity (the NFT space is a fast moving game!). There have also been many sales between 1–2.5 ETH so not a bad performance overall.
The Never Fear Truth team and Johnny Depp have a lot of work on their hands and if done properly, could be a unique, art driven ‘blue chip’ NFT project.

The Reveal
So, who did I want from the 11 pieces available? Bunny Man of course, given the rarity, utility and value. Next? A rare hunter S. Thompson or heath Ledger would have been cool, but the rarer the better of course.

Initially, this piece was not on my radar whatsoever, and I was of course a little disappointed not to have gotten a Bunny Man (as tiny as my chances were!!). As I viewed it more though, it really grew on me. The colors, the generative aspect of the art and more all really pleasing to my eye. Checking the rarity on Rarity Sniper, it was around the 1000 mark out of 3850. Not bad! (I am not revealing my mint # for obvious privacy reasons)
The Discord was full of people over the moon with their piece (diehard fans who would love anything JD related), people reasonably happy with the NFT they landed (people like me) and people who were not happy whatsoever. The holders chat channel was at times positive, but much of the time very negative, with the performance of the Never Fear Truth team the main source of frustration.

The Project
We all know Johnny Depp as the megastar of movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Donnie Brasco and many more. Some even know he is a musician also and has played guitar with his band Hollywood Vampires and on many of his own movie soundtracks and even on some of his celebrity friends’ albums. Yet not many of us (myself included) would not be aware that he is also an artist and has dabbled in this field since before he achieved any level of fame whatsoever.
So, JD and his team have created the Never Fear Truth (NFT — clever eh?) project. The theme of the project is “Friends & Heroes”. A photographic reference is used, then the image painted and each adorned with Johnny’s freehand flourishes brush strokes in an animated, generative art piece. In addition to the 8 listed in the image below, JD has also included 3 more pieces — a self portrait, an image of his dog ‘Mooh’ and the ‘Bunnyman’, who was created from a drawing based on one of his children’s dreams.
11 in total, and the original plan for release was 11,111 NFT’s. This was to be distributed as 10,000 publicly available tokens and 1111 held back for team utility. Mint price was a not cheap 0.6 ETH (around $1750 at the time of starting mint).
There is also the opportunity to get a high resolution physical copy of your NFT, all the owner has to pay for is production and shipping costs. Redeemable once per NFT.
The Drop
TLDR; drop was not very successful.
1st drop was for members of the LIT art community. Details are a little sketchy for this drop, but around 2000 NFT’s minted during this stage. Not a bad start? Then, Whitelist got their chance. I was lucky enough to be on the WL but after spending some time on the Discord, some doubts started to creep in. Positivity in the community was not always present, with the lack of utility on the NFT and lack of marketing from the team the main bugbears. Minting was slow and steady, but way, way under expectation. Open for 48 hours only, I held back and monitored closely. After the first 24 hours, mints were in the hundreds rather than thousands. The average gas fee for minting was also very low, with some paying as low as under $20 for gas, so high gas fees could not be used as an excuse. So, I held off. After 48 hours the situation had not improved and Discord was on fire with doubters, shouters and promoters.
The NFT team then released a more defined Road Map so define utility more. There would be 200 BunnyMen (reduced from 457 as project did not sell out)— these would be rare and if you held, you could design your own carrot, send to Johnny Depp and he will paint it into your artwork. Pretty cool eh?
Editions 1, 11, 111 & 1111 were special editions, owners of these could send a photo to Johnny Depp himself, he would create an artwork based on it and the result airdropped to the owners wallet. In addition, one of the 4 would be picked to be displayed at an art exhibition in London by the man JD himself!
Further utility and collaboration also promised, but as of today nothing else has really yet been reveled.
So, my Whitelist opportunity came and went without minting. Public minting was due to begin 24 hours after close of the WL, but decisions needed to be taken from the team. The Discord was full of more questions and answers and given the low take up at the end of WL (hundreds were sold rather than thousands), decisions had to be made.
As it happens, some decisions were made. It was decided that after public mint, supply would be closed. This would likely mean a dramatic reduction from the original 10,000 public NFT’s being available, with no reduction from the 0.6 ETH price to mint.
Did I Mint?
Spoiler alert was in the title — yes I minted.
Keeping an eye on the Discord and Etherscan, minting numbers continued to be low after public release. The sneak-peeks of the art did look good to me however! Coupled with the utility announced, the prospect began to look promising given the low uptake. Less minted = more rarity = more value. The chance to own an actual physical print (art from Johnny Depp!) linked to the NFT appealed to me also (provided I didn’t sell on — a big offer on OpenSea could of course tempt me!)
So, I waited until a few hours before closure of public mint, loaded some ETH into my Metamask wallet (ETH was low in price thankfully) and made the jump. $1650 total, including gas. All I had to do now was wait for reveal, which would be just under a week later, on Wednesday 2nd March 2022. Total minted after public drop? 2746 (just for context, I minted just before the project hit 2700 mints).
