Which Networks are currently supported?

The BRIDGE token is a fair-launched utility token for the Cross-Chain Bridge. In the future, the BRIDGE token will get product-focused governance rights. Newly minted BRIDGE is emitted daily via the Cross-Chain Bridge USDT Farm.

Multiple burn mechanisms have been introduced that can cause BRIDGE to be deflationary depending on the amount of bridging volume on the Cross-Chain Bridge. The buy-back & burn Protocol Incentive collects 15% of all bridging fees which will be used to periodically burn BRIDGE. Additionally, BRIDGE is burned from every withdrawal from the Reward Pools.

How secure is the Cross-Chain Bridge?

Most bridges work with a minter/burn functionality in which a token creator has to grant the bridge a minter role of the token. The Cross-Chain Bridge uses Liquidity Pools to provide bridging services, as this minimizes hack risks. The Liquidity Pools allow liquidity in any supported token to be added without the need to synchronize or partner with a project or even grant token minting permission to the bridge contract.

The Smart Contracts have been extensively audited, both internally and externally (by Chainsulting and Haechi).

Just like we say 2020 is the year of DeFi, we can say 2021 is the year of NFT and Metaverse. The adoption comes from not only crypto people. It also comes from sports league like NBA, to media company like the Times, from financial institution like the Visa, to fashion brand like the Adidas, traditional businesses are rushing into the NFT world.

Cross-chain NFT is the foundation and portal to the multi-chain metaverse. Cross-chain NFT will provide the opportunities for the long-tail artists to connect with their fans. It also provides the tool and infrastructure to empower builders to build various applications in the metaverse world.

Harmony launched a cross-chain NFT bridge on last Monday. It is an extension of our widely used «horizon» bridge. Horizon bridge originally supports ERC20 token standard, and we added ERC721 and ERC1155 token standard support. It provides high security via the decentralized multi-signature operators. Two out of the three operators are run by the community. It is a two way bridge. The HRC721 which is the harmony’s mapping of ERC721 can be bridge from Harmony to Ethereum. From Ethereum to Harmony, the two popular NFT standard, ERC721 and ERC1155 are both support, with OpenSea verification API support.

How it works?

I want elaborate a little bit more on why do I think cross-chain NFT is necessary and why it is the foundation for massive adoption.

Admittedly, Ethereum still attracts the most prominent artists or NFT collectors. However, emerging artists globally had also created nice pieces and gathered attention already.

Based on the cross-chain NFT, there could be many new applications built on top of it.

One section is the NFT derivatives and lending protocol.

Expensive NFTs like the Cryptopunks can be used to generate many derivatives like comics, books, cartoon, or co-branded items. Those derivatives may attract more fans with a lower price. It is like a premium IP can reach wider audiences. Another example, a BoredApe can be deposited as a collateral in the lending protocol on Ethereum, while borrowing ONE tokens on Harmony. As a Bored Ape owner, I would be very happy if that’s possible so that I don’t sell my ape and in the meantime I can participate in the DeFi projects on Harmony. Some project ideas have already been explored, like the Vera Financial project was just launched last month to enable NFT lending.

In terms of GameFi project, they are naturally cross multi-chain, such as the Ronin side-chain built by Axie Infinity is really the catalyst of the booming of the gamers with low tx fee and high throughput. Some new projects are planning to launch multi-chain metaverse as well, such as the GAMA project plans to launch different spaceships on different chains.

The cross-chain NFT is the 1st step and provides the infrastructure of those kind of new applications.

We are still at the DAY ONE of the cross-chain, and multi-chain world.

Harmony is keen to build the infrastructure of Web3. On our roadmap for Metaverse , we want to provide tooling and infrastructure for creatives and artists, like streaming loyalties, gated access using on-chain primitives. Multiple marketplace support, different assets support.

Price drops, regulatory crackdowns and geopolitical concerns have made 2022 a challenging year for the crypto markets. The recent recovery in prices is welcome, and a sign that crypto is resilient in the face of these headwinds.

One corner has shown particular resilience: non-fungible tokens (NFTs). According to recent research by DappRadar, in January 2022 there were $5.3 billion in NFT trades, excluding LooksRare’s $10.7 billion in sales volume. At the same time, the top 100 NFT collections were valued at $14.8 billion – only 15% less than in November, despite the 50% drop in ETH’s price over the same period. In February, the value of NFT trades had doubled to $10.6 billion.

This resilience has arisen despite a key flaw of the overall NFT space. Some 90% of all NFTs are created on one chain – Ethereum – and are priced in ETH. This is not ideal, not least because of the high gas fees that are associated with ETH, which eat into the NFTs’ returns, but also because it restricts their trading to just the one chain.

A key development is underway that will allow NFTs to be traded across networks. Supporting multiple chains means that buyers and sellers do not have to switch back and forth between different marketplaces to use different chains. Moreover, they will be able to mint their own NFTs using any crypto currency, even those that are non-native to the chain.

How does Agoran achieve this? Since rendering 3D game NFT like characters and assets is specific per game and non-standard, Agoran has been working closely with multiple game studios to develop a standard protocol where 3D NFT assets can be rendered consistently both in-game, externally and across games. That allows 3D NFT assets to be displayed in 3D on the NFT marketplace, enabling a much improved viewing experience for potential buyers.

Thirdly, most NFT gaming marketplaces don’t allow sellers to list their assets on other NFT marketplaces. Axie’s marketplace requires sellers to commit to only their own marketplace. Agoran does not have this restriction. NFT game sellers can list on Agoran while openly listing on other marketplaces as well, allowing for greater freedom that other NFT gaming marketplaces don’t allow.

Multichain NFT marketplaces are key to the development of the wider NFT space, as they increase interoperability. This makes them more sustainable by reducing the concentration risks inherent in having everything running on just one chain.

While this is a wider application than just NFTs, cross-chain NFT marketplaces are an important piece of the puzzle. The rise of GameFi is predicated on the value that people assign to their NFTs. The value of NFTs also underpins their growing adoption by mainstream corporations as they move into crypto, especially in sectors such as art, music and luxury goods. One of the pillars of value is liquidity and ease of trading. Allowing NFTs to be traded across multiple chains multiplies their liquidity and ultimately multiplies their value. It also reinforces the resilience of the wider crypto market. And in this time of turmoil, we should be doing everything we can to strengthen the crypto markets.
