Setting up your crypto wallet

After you’ve finished installing MetaMask, create an account by clicking “create a new wallet. ” You will then be asked to set-up a password and remember a secret recovery phrase. At this moment, grab a pencil or pen and write down this phrase.

This phrase is critical, and you should keep this phrase in a secure location, as it provides access to your wallet. It is recommended that you do not save this phrase on your phone or any easily accessible areas, as anyone who sees it will be able to access your account.

Once you’ve set up your MetaMask account, press the browser extension, and you should be able to access your account. You will now how to fund your MetaMask with a CryptoCurrency!

Purchasing your first NFT on OpenSea

After you’ve funded your wallet, you can now head on over to OpenSea to purchase your first NFT. OpenSea is an NFT marketplace that allows you buy/sell/mint (aka create) NFTs. As of publication, OpenSea is the most popular marketplace.

Once on OpenSea, browse and look around for the NFT that you are interested in buying. For this example, we will use our very own Piggie Palz! After you’ve found the collection you’re interested in purchasing, look for the specific NFT you want to purchase and click on its picture to take you to its asset page.

Almost there! Click buy now on the NFT you want to purchase to start the process. As long as you have enough funds to confirm the process you will be able to click “confirm checkout. ” In doing so, your connected MetaMask account should then appear on the right hand side. Your purchase price will consist of the price of the NFT plus the “gas” fee it will take to process the transaction. Gas sees a high variation depending on supply and demand, so you will want to wait for a time where gas is low to make your purchase (unless you are trying to purchase something before someone else does!). A good site to track gas is here. You typically want to see gas below 100 before making a purchase. Once you’re satisfied click “confirm” to finish your transaction!

Congratulations, now wait a few minutes and you’ve now just purchased your first NFT!

There’s a lot to learn in the NFT space that can impact any of the decisions above, but first things first, I hope you’ve learned how to get started! We look forward to sharing more information on entering and mastering the NFT space.

What is NFT?

A non-fungible token is a digital asset. “Non-fungible” means that an NFT cannot be exchanged for something else of equal value. For example, a dollar bill is fungible. One dollar bill can be exchanged for any other dollar bill. An artwork, like a painting, however, is non-fungible. If you traded one artwork for another artwork, even one by the same artist, you would have completely different artwork. In the same way, each NFT is unique.

Each NFT is different from the others. An NFT can be anything — an artwork such as a drawing, painting, meme, doodle, text, music, or anything else as long as it is in a digital format.

Like traditional forms of artwork, NFTs are also prized possessions for those who own them and are displayed proudly, sometimes as part of a profile pictures on the social media accounts for the world to see or on giant screens in the comfort of their homes for a more private viewing.

Of course, most NFTs can be viewed by anyone for free. Owning an NFT simply gives the buyer ownership of the work. It’s a bit like buying an original Picasso instead of a copy. Although they both look the same, the original is more valuable because it is the original. However, because NFTs are digital, the original and the copy look identical.

So, in some ways, what you buy is the right to say that you own the NFT. What you are getting is a digital certificate of the artwork, which is unique because it has been signed and verified by the creator.

As long as people continue to value NFTs, they will continue to be valuable. On top of this, they also represent a new way for many artists to monetize their work without relying on intermediaries like galleries or record labels (who take a piece of the profit). NFTs also allow artists to earn royalties whenever a work is sold to a new owner.

To get your hands on an NFT for yourself, you will need to buy it from an NFT marketplace such as Open Sea, Rarible, and Nifty Gateway, to name a few.

Where can I get NFTs?

NFTs that are available for purchase are listed on NFT marketplaces, a more sophisticated platform than eBay, which many of us may have used at some point. Apart from the NFTs that are especially popular, these marketplaces also host new NFTs that may have been added recently or made available as part of the more extensive collection.

While most popular NFT marketplaces deal with digital pieces, there are also niche marketplaces where one can get their hands on in-game items from popular online games, digital collectible cards, and digital real estate.

A marketplace will also display the transaction history, or «provenance» for the NFT, listing the names of the previous owners of the digital piece and the prices they paid for it. An NFT owner who wants to sell can choose to either sell the NFT directly at a set price or set up a timed auction to award it to the highest bidder. There is also the option of negotiating with the NFT owner on the price you will pay for the digital piece.

How do I buy NFTs?

To buy an NFT, you will need to open an account with an NFT marketplace. Unlike cryptocurrency, NFTs can often be bought without sharing details such as your name, address, or government-issued ID with the marketplace. Signing up for an account is usually free on these marketplaces, but to purchase or bid for an NFT, you will need to connect your crypto wallet to the marketplace. A wallet is a digital account that can be used to keep cryptocurrency and digital assets safe.

If you own some cryptocurrency and already have a digital wallet to store them in, you can check if the NFT marketplace works with your crypto wallet provider. If it does, connecting your wallet is straightforward. You simply need to enter your wallet address and the wallet password when prompted, after which you are done.

If the marketplace does not support your wallet provider, you will have to create a digital wallet on a compatible platform with your choice’s marketplace. Before you buy or bid for an NFT, you will need to fund your wallet. Most NFT marketplaces accept Ethereum as a mode of payment for their transactions, so you will need to get ETH from a digital currency exchange like CoinBase.

Keep in mind that, as with cryptocurrency, NFTs valuations can also be volatile, and you must exercise caution when spending on them.

Additionally, the recent craze for NFTs has also attracted many scammers to this space. Scammers have done everything from marketplace look-alikes to stolen NFTs, direct messaging scams on social media platforms, or hacking accounts. Just because an NFT seems to be growing in popularity, that may not be a compelling reason to jump to buy it. That may be a classic ‘pump and dump’ where a group of scammers artificially spike the value of NFTs only to abandon them suddenly.

Like cryptocurrency, it is always recommended to head to trusted sources to buy your NFTs too.

What’s the best place to buy NFTs?

Other platforms that you are considered trustworthy include Rarible, Nifty Gateway, and some special NFT marketplaces from crypto exchanges such as Binance and Coinbase. Some of these platforms may not have mobile apps, while others do not have messaging features. Credit card buys are not allowed on Open Sea, even though it is possible on some other marketplaces.

How to make and sell an NFT?

To make your NFT, you need to visit the marketplace website and click on the ‘Create’ option. You will then be prompted to upload an image or a video or audio clip and describe it in greater detail, aiming to convey the importance of the content. Last year, the ‘disaster girl’ meme, which has been doing the rounds on the internet for over a decade, was converted into an NFT and sold for a whopping $500,000.

When you create an NFT, it gets stored in your digital wallet. To sell the NFT on a marketplace, you need to connect this wallet to the marketplace, which could also attract a one-time fee.

Once the wallet is connected, you can list the NFTs there for sale. This is also a straightforward process where you can either select an NFT and fix a price to sell it or conduct an auction, where the NFT will be delivered to the highest bidder.

Marketplaces also have the option to add a «Creator’s fee» to an NFT when it changes hands. This is like a royalty payment that the creator can continue to receive as the price of the NFT appreciates in the market through subsequent sales. Creator’s fees are generally capped at 10 percent, so if your NFT sold at 0. 2 ETH is resold at 1 ETH, you will get another 0. 1 ETH when that transaction is completed.

Selling your NFT will usually require more than just listing it. You will need to market your NFT or make one that stands out. Do remember you are competing with thousands of Bored Apes out there.

Как создать и оформить коллекцию?

Файлы, которые планируется превратить в НФТ, лучше сразу разделить на группы. На NFT marketplace Opensea авторы сначала создают коллекции, а уже потом в них добавляют токены. Сделать это не сложно, вот пошаговая инструкция:

• Нажимаем на значок профиля, открывается всплывающее меню, где нужно выбрать My Collections, а потом нажать кнопку Create a collection:
• Откроется форма, которую необходимо заполнить данными. Сверху будет два поля для загрузки изображений – логотип и рекламные картинки, которые будут представлять коллекцию на главной странице (второй можно не добавлять):
• Ниже идёт ещё одно поле для загрузки изображения – баннера, который будет установлен на странички коллекции в верхней части. Ниже идёт Name – название, URL – возможность изменить адрес странички, а также Description – описание:
• Помните, что заполнять форму нужно на английском языке, это зарубежный проект и основная аудитория его пользователей – иностранцы. Дальше выбирается категория, есть 6 вариантов (искусство, предметы коллекционирования, фотографии, спорт, карточки и полезное). Также предлагают указать ссылки на официальные странички в соц. сетях:
• При перепродаже токена, автору переводится процент. В настройках коллекции можно указать, сколько будет приходить с каждой перепродажи (Royalties). Доступен выбор блокчейна, на Opensea NFT Polygon или Etrhereum:

Заполнив хотя бы 2 обязательных поля – имя и лого, кнопка Create уже станет активной. После нажатия на неё, в личном кабинете создается коллекция, теперь можно переходить к добавлению собственных токенов.

Как загрузить первую работу и создать NFT-токен?

Запустить NFT токен Opensea не сложно, в главном меню есть кнопка Create, нажав на неё, сразу же попадаешь на страничку с формой, где нужно указать разную информацию. В верхней части находится поле, через которое добавляется сам файл – картинка, видео, аудио, 3D модель и прочее (доступные форматы там указаны):

Ниже идёт ещё несколько строчек. В Name нужно придумать название, в External link указать ссылку с подробной информацией о токене. Затем идёт Description для краткого описания, выбор коллекции и подключаются дополнительные функции:

Можно добавить какие-то характеристики, уровни, статистику. Переключатель Unlockable Content позволяет скрыть содержимое от всех, кроме владельца токена. А Explicit & Sensitive Content также позволяет отметить контент как откровенный или конфиденциальный. В нижней части находится следующее:

В строке Supply указывается количество выпускаемых токенов, потом выбирается блокчейн, а в строке Freeze metadata можно указать какую-то информацию, которая навсегда будет добавлена в блок. Выполнив все действия или хотя бы загрузив файл и указав имя, кнопка Create становится активной. Нажав на неё, создается новый NFT.

Как продать токен NFT на Opensea?

Выставлять на продажу новые НФТ Opensea можно сразу после создания. Для этого необходимо перейти в свои коллекции и выбрать ту, которая была выбрана при загрузке файла на предыдущем шаге:

После открытия карточки с NFT, на страничке будет представлена информация, которую вы указывали в форме добавления, а также график движения цены, история сделок и офферы (предложения). Сверху справа расположена кнопка Sell:

Определяем условия продажи

Когда откроется страничка с формой продажи токенов, сначала будет предложено установить фиксированную сумму. Тут всё просто, выбираешь валюту, указываешь цифру, выбираешь срок:

Можно включить Sell as a bundle (для продажи сразу нескольких NFT) или Reserve for specific buyer для резервации для конкретного покупателя. Если выбирается режим аукциона, форма немного отличается:

Можно выбрать метод выигрыша аукциона, выбрать валюту, указать начальную ставку, выбрать срок проведения торгов и можно включить Include reserve price, чтобы добавить резервную сумму, по которой будет продан токен, если не будет достигнут нужный порог. В любом случае, в нижней части отображается комиссия и кнопка Complete listing.

Нажав на неё, открывается окно, через которое необходимо провести оплату gas (комиссии за транзакцию). Автоматически открывается кошелек, остается только подтвердить оплату, сразу после этого НФТ попадает в маркетплейс.

Размер комиссии при продаже

Этот момент необходимо учитывать, потому что сборы могут быть больше, чем стоимость токена. В примере выше вы могли заметить, что была выставлена цена 0. 001 ETH (примерно 4$). Какая комиссия за gas была установлена?

Перед тем, как создавать или продавать токены на данной платформе, придется купить ETH. Как бесплатно выставить NFT на Opensea? Никак, комиссию за новые записи в блокчейне никто за вас не оплатит.

How crypto wallets play a role in buying NFTs

Crypto wallets aren’t just for purchasing an NFT. Once you’ve made your selection, you’ll also need a place to store your NFT. Simple options include Coinbase Wallet and MetaMask, and other cryptocurrency exchanges offer wallet features included with an account to trade cryptocurrencies.

However, there are other wallet options for securing cryptos and NFTs offline outside of an account directly connected to an exchange (known as cold storage). For example, the companies Trezor and Ledger offer actual hardware wallets that can store crypto assets. With a private security key, the wallets can provide an added layer of security for storing NFTs.
